Have you voted?

If you called the 1-888 number and requested a paper ballot, it should arrive in the mail any day now. The company who is managing this election sends all the paper ballots out in one batch, after the deadline to request the ballots has past. People who made that call in mid February have been understandably concerned over the delay, but we have been assured that everyone who called before March 1 will receive their ballots in the next few days.

ALL BALLOTS--PAPER AND ELECTRONIC--
MUST BE RECEIVED BY 4PM (MST) ON MARCH 22!

  Wayne's Weekly Wellness Tip
"...we're all athletes. Life is our sport. Train for your life."

Living a healthy lifestyle is not always easy. Identifying a purpose for making healthy choices can help make your efforts seem less like work, and more like reward. There are a million and one different reasons to choose a healthy lifestyle. Near the top of everyone’s list should be this: to help me get through my day easier, and more efficiently. Throughout each day we complete a series of five basic movements that are known as Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s). Those movements are:
  1. Squatting (sitting and standing, lifting a grocery bag)
  2. Lunging (walking and running, climbing stairs)
  3. Pushing (opening a door, rising to a seated position from a lying position)
  4. Pulling (taking out the garbage bag, putting on socks)
  5. Rotation (turning to get in and out of a vehicle, looking over your shoulder)
We don’t consciously think about these movements, but we use them to accomplish many of our daily tasks. It makes sense that we should train our bodies to become more efficient at them. As you create your fitness plan, take your Activities of Daily Living into account. Include activities that strengthen and improve your five basic movement patterns. If you are active, you will likely find that you are already doing some. The squats that you are doing will help you develop power in your lower body that will allow you to stand from the couch. The chest press or bench press exercises that you do will help you move that piece of furniture across the room without having to wait for assistance.
Athletes train their bodies to compete in their sport. Well, we’re all athletes. Life is our sport. Train for your life.
