Destinations                 Inspiration                Special Offers

March 2017

As springtime unfolds, if your thoughts are drifting towards sunshine and the great outdoors, this month's newsletter should definitely float your boat. If Canada is on your travel wish-list, 2017 is the year to visit with a huge range of fantastic celebrations planned in honour of the 150th anniversary of the confederation.

Our March special offers cover Hawaii to Whistler, via Vancouver Island. See our website for offers to other destinations. For more inspiration follow us on twitter, facebook, pinterest  and Instagram.

Where we've been and seen

A touch of nostalgia this month, as Abi looks back on an epic road-trip around Canada, taking in Vancouver, Vancouver Island, the Wild West and the Rockies, with a side-helping of Hawaiian beach and an unexpected twist, or should that read 'twister' in between all the bear-spotting and upside down zip-lining.  Read more in this month's blog.

Wildlife Galore

Here's our round-up of Canada's most famous residents:

Black Bears
The most common bear in Canada, is not always black! With a top running speed of up to 45km/ hour they are nifty in the water too. Stay: Wickaninnish Inn

Orcas
From May to October take a local whale-watching tour to see Orcas, Humpback Whales, Minke Whales, seals and sea-lions. Stay: Inn at Laurel Point

Grizzlies
Sadly endangered, three-quarters of the 27-29 000 grizzly bears in Canada are found in BC and Yukon. A large male may weigh a hefty 250-400 kg. Stay: Knight Inlet

Birds of Prey
The bald eagle is Canada's largest bird of prey. Found along the Pacific coast of British Columbia they aren't in fact bald! StayPacific Sands Beach Resort

In the news

Did you know that Canada was created in a series of (very orderly!) negotiations, culminating in the terms of Confederation on 1st July 1867? That marks 2017 as the sesquicentennial anniversary! Not surprisingly there are celebrations left, right and centre so if ever you were going to visit - now is the time!  One of the best perks - Parks Canada is giving away free passes to Canada's national parks, historic sites and marine conservation areas. The passes will be available at Parks Canada sites and through partners until the end of 2017.
