NHS England – corrections to Quality Payments guide

NHS England has replaced the Quality Payments guide on its website with a new version due to an error in the original version. If you downloaded a copy of the original version, then you need to replace it with the new version so you have the correct information on how to upload the Community Pharmacy Patient Questionnaire to NHS Choices.

Quality Payments tips: Patient survey & NHS Choices

This week’s tip guide focuses on uploading your patient survey to NHS Choices – or your website if you’re a distance-selling pharmacy. It’s based on the corrected guidance from NHS England.

HLP Champion training: more dates announced

New HLP Champions training dates in Bury on 27^th- 28^th April.

This training has been arranged by both Bolton and GMLPC on behalf of Community Pharmacy contractors across Greater Manchester.

The quality criteria outlines what is required for achieving Healthy Living Pharmacy (HLP) Level 1 status.

One requirement of HLP is that each pharmacy has one member of staff who has completed the RSPH Level 2 Understanding Health Improvement course.

The course aims to enable participants to gain a better understanding and appreciation of how inequalities in health may develop and the current policies for addressing these. It will provide you with the knowledge and understanding of the principles of promoting health and well-being and equip you to support your customers in trying to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

GMLPC webinar: NOTE DATE CHANGE to 27^th March

7.30pm-8.30pm, Monday 27^th March: The Ultimate Guide to Quality Payments

Fin Mc Caul, our Contractor Engagement Lead, will cover all you need to know to secure and claim your Quality Payments in April, as well as answering any questions you have. The webinar has been organised by Greater Manchester LPC, with support from NPA.

Details of how to join the webinar will be shared in the newsletter nearer the time. If you’d like us to email you as well, contact enquiries@gmlpc.org.uk. Please note the date change: this webinar will now be on 27^th March, not 20^th March.

NEW Greater Manchester Pharmacy Handbook 2017

Greater Manchester commissioners have now published an updated Pharmacy Handbook for 2017, including appendices with contact details for local signposting, safeguarding, EPS and NHSmail queries, and so on.
You can access the handbook on our website. If you downloaded or printed information from the old 2014 handbook and/or its appendices, you should now replace them with this new version.

Pharmacy First Bury and HMR

We would like to update you that the HMR and Bury CCG have now joined the Greater Manchester Minor Ailments Scheme known as Pharmacy First. The LPC has been engaged in this process as part of our work to bring standardisation and a consistent offer of pharmacy services across Greater Manchester.

You will receive a new service specification shortly. The LPC will also be hosting this information on our website alongside supporting material, so do keep a look out for this information.

Existing schemes that are currently in place will end on the 31^st March 2017, therefore any claims relating to these service must be submitted by 1^st April 2017 to receive payment, any claims after this point will not be authorised.

Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) update

Public Health England are keen for case studies and social media activity linked to the antimicrobial resistance (AMR) campaign. You can send your case studies to them via the links here. You can also email them with details of your social media activity and statistics at partnerships@phe.gov.uk. There are updated campaign resources including social media tools here.

Clinical governance deadline (31^st March)

Don’t forget the 31^st March is the deadline for completing the 2016/17 Information Governance Toolkit, publishing the results of the Community Pharmacy Patient Questionnaire, and carrying out your clinical audits. Pharmacies also need to publish a complaints report for the year as soon as possible after 31^st March.

Pharmacy technicians: your chance to shine in APTUK awards!

There are fantastic pharmacy technicians in Greater Manchester who really deserve awards and recognition. The APTUK/AAH awards are pharmacy techs’ chance to shine and there are four categories: Outstanding Contribution; Leadership; Innovation; and Patient Safety. The closing date is 24^th April so if you’ve got stars in your pharmacy (or are a star technician yourself), don’t be shy! Get those entries in and find out more at

About Gill:

Having been qualified for almost 30 years, Gill has had experience across a number of sectors including industry, hospital (NHS and private) and community pharmacy. She has worked as part of the Superintendent’s Team at Well and most recently has been managing the Operational Support Centre which triages and answers all queries from the stores within the estate and schedules employee and locum pharmacists for stores.

Salford opportunity: extension to public health services

Salford pharmacies have an opportunity to extend their contracts to deliver public health locally commissioned services in 2017/18. You can choose to provide the same services again, provide additional services.
If you want to provide these services, you need to respond to Salford City Council by 31^st March 2017 confirming that you agree. The letter below explains how to do this.
The contract process is slightly different depending on whether you provided the services in 2016/17 or not, and whether you want to provide additional services in 2017/18.

Manchester: Chair appointed for new city-wide CCG

Manchester GP Dr Philip Burns has been appointed Chair of the new city-wide NHS Manchester CCG, which will be created on 1^st April 2017 by the merger of the three existing CCGs. Dr Burns has chaired South Manchester CCG since 2016 and has practised as a GP in Manchester for the last 14 years. In his new role, he will also be Chair designate for Manchester Heath and Care Commissioning, a partnership between the CCG and Manchester City Council that will oversee health, social care and public health commissioning in Manchester.

Trafford PNA – correct dates

Trafford Council has clarified the dates for its consultation on the draft PNA. The consultation runs from 3^rd March to 4^th April. The sharp-eyed among you will have noticed slightly different dates in the draft PNA and consultation survey but the correct ones are 3^rd March to 4^th April.

Wigan: Have your say on new sexual health proposals

Wigan Council is now seeking people’s views on a new model for sexual health services in the borough, and is keen to hear what local pharmacies think. The consultation runs until 19^th April.
The proposed new model has been developed following feedback from the first phase of the consultation in December and January where people gave their views on existing services and opportunities for new ones.

The workshop will be followed by a presentation from CRUK and the GM Bowel Cancer Screening Programme on the role pharmacy staff can play in improving bowel cancer screening uptake
