"Sunlight Over First Hill" Selected as Design for Interstate 5 Columns

The First Hill Improvement Association is proud to announce that "Sunrise Over First Hill"  is the winning concept for the Interstate 5 Columns project.

Designed by local artist and Seattle University student Nathan Watkins, this concept represents First Hill's neighbors, architectural history, topography, density, and lush tree canopy. Nathan says, "this design could represent no other area, and in being as such it is a powerful expression of the identity, character, and presence of First Hill."

We thank the thousands of people who voted in the selection process, and a grateful to each of the artists who submitted thoughtful proposals for consideration.

After final permitting and review, this project will be installed during the late spring/early summer by our partners at Urban Artworks. Many volunteer opportunities are coming, so stay tuned!

Review the Your Voice, Your Choice Proposals

Your Voice, Your Choice is a process in which Seattle residents decide how to spend a portion of the City's budget. In 2017, Your Voice, Your Choice is focused on Parks & Streets, with community members helping decide how to spend $2,000,000 of the City budget on small-scale improvements to streets and parks in our neighborhoods.

In February. community members submitted potential projects to be funded throughout the city. The District 7 and District 3 are online for your review. The process is now moving forward to the project development phase, with a citywide public vote in June.

The First Hill Streetcar is Out of Service for Testing

The First Hill Streetcar is currently experiencing a service interuption for an undetermined amount of time due to a tripped circut that cut electricity to internal controls.

In the meantime, King County Metro will be operating a weekday peak shuttle bus along the streetcar route. To plan around this interuption, please view this document.

The Master Plan describes zoning rules, long range planning of the property, and transportation planning.

Community members who have experience in neighborhood organizing and issues, land use and zoning, architecture or landscape architecture, economic development, building development, educational services, or just an interest in their neighborhood’s future are encouraged to apply.
