ATMann’s March Virgo Full Moon Astrology Newsletter

The Virgo Full Moon occurs on 12 March 2017 at 10:55AM EDT, just after we change the clocks ahead to Eastern Daylight Time. Once again, we have a very complex chart with many contradictions, falsities, and woundedness as the sensitive and receptive Pisces Sun is bracketed by its recently passed conjunction with Neptune, the ruler of Pisces and its movement towards conjunctions with Chiron, and then Mercury in Pisces.
When the Sun passes over Neptune in its sign, all kinds of boundaries are crossed over, both outwardly and secretly, breeding confusion, paralysis, over-reaction, and extreme sensitivity to information and all of this affected inwardly by moodiness and even vindictiveness. There is a strange collusion of fact and fiction, and one finds a confusion between reality as perceived versus what the consensus accepts as reality.

Certainly, it seems like a boundary-free-zone, as I choose to call it in my readings. Since the Sun typically represents objectivity, reason, and decisiveness, when it is in Pisces it is deeply affected by the Neptune rulership as a seeming contradiction to those classic qualities of father figures or leaders, and that seems to be exactly what is happening. As the Sun and Neptune hover around the eleventh house cusp, this focuses these qualities on those in power and the choices and actions they trigger and makes one question where the impetus comes from.

The “story-teller of our wounds” Chiron is just ahead of the Sun in Pisces and this activates a strange principle in which people who shine brightly and act in control when Chiron is active don’t feel as though they deserve the treatment they receive at others’ hands in some situations, and the wounds seem to become more visible than ever despite all efforts to hide them, and it can even erupt into anger and strange behavior triggered by words and actions. It is also associated with narcissism, a controlling and autocratic drive for power as shadow qualities emerge at the slightest hint of opposition. It’s the need to reinforce one’s association with the solar masculine principle and can feel forced. Although attractive and magnetic, there can also be a strong sense of loneliness too. Because this conjunction is obviously opposite the Moon in Virgo, the critical forces that trigger this sense of resistance becomes much stronger, and the feeling that one isn’t getting enough for what one has done hits deeply, and can easily lead to being more manipulative than usual. The combination is difficult to understand and work with as it originates in deeper, childhood dynamics.

The presence of Mercury, also in Pisces, exaggerates communicative issues and potential misunderstandings and difficulty defining truths (and consequences). Pisces makes the surrounding world seem more set than usual and communication is strained in all kinds of ways. Even when we want to communicate positively, there can be a sense of strain involved, particularly as Saturn in Sagittarius is in a T-square with Sun/Chiron opposite the Moon and exactly square to Mercury, making the self-willed principle that much stronger and pressured, and will likely lead to estrangement, then disconnection. It also can lead to inner suffering when opposed, and even activates greater and more irrational responses to follow.

The critical nature of the Virgo Moon also has its own unique role in the proceedings, because Virgo is naturally as self-critical as it is critical of others, and yet the first part is often hidden, and since the Moon is archetypically about responsiveness and empathy, in this case, it is aspected by Pluto in Capricorn, which is unkind and harsh in criticism. She is quincunx the independent and reactive Uranus in the self-willed Aries, where there are all kinds of responses to situations that call for action that can sometimes be extreme and not adequately thought out. All in all, it is a time to take care with decisions that you make and try to understand the consequences beforehand.

The Moon square Saturn in Sagittarius is part of the full moon as a T-square and pits our current feelings against our world view, and this can create sparks competing as we attempt to express ourselves and our situation without triggering difficult responses. This also shows the emergence of issues of self-control, where isolation and depression are likely, and there is a tendency to attribute faults to others rather than ourselves.

The continuing Jupiter retrograde of optimism and excesses of the past is still exactly in opposition to the unsettled and erratic Uranus, and this strange combination continues to wreak havoc in all kinds of ways, such as the tendency to miss important opportunities to make creative decisions in favor of continuing to take certain positions out of sheer opposition instead of having consistent convictions. This continues to be the case and creates an atmosphere of intransigence and frustration, especially as the opposing planets are mutually squared by the consensus-maker Pluto being fated forces that seem to sabotage activities now. This is central as all three planets tie in closely to the Sun/Moon/Chiron oppositional trio. What is most interesting about everything I have written so far is that one could easily see it as an opinion about current politics in the US, however I would say that it is quite eerie how accurately these aspect combinations are being reflected by certain individuals as well as outer international politics, not only here in the US, but also around Europe.

The energetic and agent for dynamic change Mars recently entered Taurus, its opposite rulership, which is intractable and combative, and as it is in the twelfth house of hidden agendas, secrets, and everything that is hidden, it might just resonate with this time as feeling out of control and that the complexities of life are overwhelming. The only aspect Mars makes now is a trine to the collective Node of the Moon, which tends to striate situations into proving how our allies and family either step up to support us or back away, especially since the Node is in the critical Virgo, like the Moon, moving back towards its entrance into Leo at the end of April, so I would say that this awkward situation isn’t about to go away so quickly and is likely to continue for a while.

This leaves lonely Venus, now retrograding in its opposite sign Aries and in a very loose semi-sextile aspect to Neptune, a strange situation, as she begins to drift back towards the Sun as in the ancient myths, and while this looks a bit like love lost in its retrograde motion, it is much deeper than that. As Erin Sullivan wrote in her book “Retrograde Planets,” when Venus retrogrades something creative emerges, maybe “the impulse for creative physical expression of an exalted idea,” and that this could well mean that in this time of strange and apparently destructive energies abounding, that a new and enlightened creative force is emerging, and given the sway of Venus, I believe it is women, reorganizing and restructuring their collective power through various symbols that although timeless are also archetypal, and that their time has come in this unusual way. So, let’s leave with this take away that maybe there is love somewhere waiting to manifest and let’s encourage it to happen.

I am around and available for sessions of your choice, so be in touch. I will be giving a day-long workshop on Astro-Healing at the Golden Drum in Brooklyn in April that will hopefully energize healing energies and as the Venus retrograde develops (I must admit to having been born two days after Venus went retro years ago) into the force it should be. I thank the many of you who responded so positively to my interview with Adam Sommer a while ago in mentioning my book project, “Serpents’ Dreams: Symbols of the Divine Feminine and Women’s Power,” that is looking for a publishing home these days. Do contact me as we respond to this climate of uncertainty with positive moves forward (and backward).

All the best,
Tad
