OK folks, this is it, we're on!

After six years of waiting we finally have our chance to say what we want to see in the red zone - Regenerate Christchurch are holding a major community event later this month to seek your ideas, opinions and comments. Make sure you take part! Here are the details...

The invitation from Ivan Iafeta, Chief Executive, Regenerate Christchurch:

Greetings

I would like to invite you to attend Regenerate Christchurch’s Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor’s Community Day on Saturday 25 March, from 10am – 3pm at Haeata Community Campus in Wainoni.

The Community Day is an opportunity for people to help develop an overarching vision and objectives for the Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor.

To create a meaningful vision, collectively we need to answer the question, ‘what is the greatest contribution this land could make to Christchurch and New Zealand?’

What does Christchurch need, now and in the future, and how could the Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor meet those needs.

We are building a shared knowledge and understanding of the area, with information available on our engagement website and via our land information viewer. We’re also conducting research to understand community needs.

At the Community Day we’ll be combining all this information together. You’ll be able to journey through an interactive experience to learn about the land, river and our city’s needs, then share your thoughts on how this area could shape an exciting future for Christchurch.

There will be free guided bus tours of the red zone and the whole day is designed to be family-friendly, and fun.

I hope to see you there.

Kind regards

Yes there will be another community clean up along the lower Avon this year - but this year it will have a unique twist.  We will be preparing the riverside for the creation of the transitional stop bank river trail from the city to the sea!
