MEETUP and CLEAN UP! -- Chicago River Day 2017 - Saturday, May 13 9 am -12 noon
Organized by Friends of the Chicago River

Volunteer with fellow Club members to help beautify our Chicago River and Parks.
Volunteers should expect to work and get a bit dirty. This is an outdoor activity located in a variety of city parks, forest preserves, etc. along the banks of the Chicago River and its tributaries. Your morning will start out with a welcome from your site captain, signing of waivers (required), and T-shirt distribution. This will be followed by an overview of the day’s activities, safety talk, and distribution of supplies to volunteers. Volunteers will work along the river banks and help to remove litter, sort out recyclables and remove invasive species.

JANE ADDAMS TRAIL Bike Trip - June 16 - 18, 2017

Join us in drift less (unglaciated) northwestern Illinois and ride the lovely Jane Addams trail for as long or short as you like. Several different lengths of ride will get you to different small towns on the trail with different lunch options Rolling hills and farmland provide the backdrop for our ride on former railroad trails, often along the Pecatonica River.

Our wine and cheese party will feature local beer, cheese and wine-and of course Mrs. Mike's potato chips.

Price includes 2 nights stay (double occupancy) and a wine and cheese party.

BIKE HOLLAND MICHIGAN
Friday, Jul 14, 2017 to Sunday, Jul 16, 2017

Enjoy summer in Holland, MI with two bike riding options. Join the Holland 100 bike ride over country roads with riding options of 18, 36, 67, or 100 miles. Registration for the Holland 100 is separate and is prorated for when you register. The earlier you register the cheaper the ride ($30.00 - $40.00). It has great food stops and is well supported with sag wagons. Another alternative is to ride along Holland’s bike paths out to the lakeshore to see Big Red (the Holland lighthouse) and enjoy lunch along the way. Holland has a wonderful Farmer’s Market to shop at either before or after your ride. Sunday offers the opportunity to ride the Kal Haven trail on your way back to Chicago or to stop in Saugatuck to enjoy the shops, galleries, and good eating.

This is a self drive trip which includes double occupancy, a continental breakfast, and a wine and cheese party. *NOTE: The Holland 100 requires a separate registration which can be done at www.holland100.com. Ed Hanlon will be the ride leader.

ART PRIZE - GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN

LSSC is returning for the third time to Grand Rapids ArtPrize. The hotel is an ideal location within walking distance from all art venues and restaurants. Visit Meijer Garden and Sculpture Park. Japanese Garden is very much worth seeing also. Its only 5.6 miles from the hotel.

ArtPrize is recognized as the most-attended public art event on the planet according to The Art Newspaper, and was recently highlighted in The New York Times’ 52 Places To Go in 2016.

Spring Back to Vail with Viking Ski Shop - April 3 - 9, 2017 - CLOSED

It’s our 25th Vail trip. It will be EPIC!

Join Viking Ski shop for some spring skiing in beautiful Vail, Co. The crowds will have dissipated, leaving us and lots of "locals" plenty of time to cruise the slopes and catch the afternoon sun. Powder can be plentiful at this time of year.

Big Bend National Park on the Rio Grande in Texas. April 1 - April 9, 2017 - CLOSED

Our group will fly from Chicago to San Antonio, TX, and after a stroll down the River Walk and an overnight stay, drive to Big Bend National Park for 5 days of hiking through the Chisos Mountains, floating or canoeing down the Rio Grande River, and watching for a huge variety of birds in migration. Big Bend is awesome; trails are easy to difficult; the food at the lodge is really good and reasonable; and the vistas and stars at night are magnificent. Lots of funky towns and places to visit too. Return to San Antonio on the 8^th and fly back to Chicago on the 9^th.

Trip includes airfare non-stop on Southwest Air (Midway), 2 nights Hampton Inn in San Antonio (breakfast included), 6 nights Chisos Mountains Lodge, wine and cheese party, and SUV rentals. Not included are all other meals, other activities (canoe trip) and gas.

This 10-day trip combines rides on one of America’s iconic trains, the Empire Builder, with a week of hiking and paddling—or just lounging—in and around a jewel of the National Park system, Glacier National Park.
