Dear Yogi,

Recently, I began teaching yoga classes at a Day Services program at South Bay Community Services in Brockton, MA. Trauma-sensitive yoga is a way for yogis to safely experiment with having a body and breath.

I am utilizing all my yoga as therapy training from Kate Graham (Soulful Yoga Therapy), as well as Amy Weintraub (LifeForce Yoga) and David Emerson (The Trauma Center). If you are interested in yoga therapy, I highly recommend trainings and workshops with these teachers. For more information on Yoga as Therapy, scroll down!

In May, I will be attending a 12-day retreat with the Pathways Institute called "
Initiating the Heart." Scroll down for more retreat details!

With love,
Joanna
What is Yoga as Therapy?

Asana, pranayama, mantra, and meditation techniques are personalized for students so they can be guided through a journey of self-discovery to promote healing, restore balance and increase vitality. The aim is for students to maintain an optimum state of physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being -- on and off the mat.

Through yoga students can experiment with:
  • Breathing
  • Moving
  • Strengthening
  • Stretching
  • and, Resting
Classes are set up so that students are in control over what they are doing with their body at all times, and I am there to provide safe, professional guidance and to help students focus on particular dynamics (what muscles they are using, what it feels like to have their feet on the ground, what it feels like to breathe, etc.)
Initiating the Heart
12-day retreat

Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart… who looks outside dreams, who looks inside awakes.”
~ Carl Jung

After graduation in May, I will have my master's degree in mental health counseling. As a graduation celebration, I will be attending a 12-day retreat in the desert of Arizona with the Pathways Institute called "Initiating the Heart."

I will be exploring the work of my soul through the teachings and work of analytical psychologist Carl Jung, including:
  • Dreams and Symbols
  • Archetype and Myth
  • Energy Fields of the Body
  • Meditation
  • Personal and Collective Ritual
  • Poetry, Dance and Music, and Art
