Beacon of Light Awards
Call for Community Nominations

Beacon of Light Awards are given to individuals and organizations working to protect the rights of immigrants residing in Santa Clara County by providing education on the impacts of immigration policies, advocacy on critical issues, or direct services. These are the policies, advocacy, and services that foster a better future for immigrants, refugees, and all residents.

Santa Clara County’s Office of Immigrant Relations (OIR) encourages you to nominate an individual or organization that you believe to be worthy of this award. Smaller, grassroots and recently established organizations are also eligible.  When completing the attached nomination form, please keep in mind that we are looking specifically for:  (a) local individuals or organizations that collaborate with and significantly contribute to the work of OIR and/or (b) individuals or organizations that make positive contributions to the quality of life for immigrant families in Santa Clara County.

Historically, the Beacon of Light Award has been given to individuals and organizations in the following categories:
  1. The Cindy Avitia Award for lifelong leadership in advocating for immigrant issues.
  2. Education about immigration, immigrant contributions and specific immigrant groups.
  3. Innovation in the development of programs and services for immigrants and refugees.
  4. Arts and Culture highlighting the transformative and unifying power of arts in the process of immigrant integration and improvement of the quality of life in Santa Clara County.
