A Message from Your Davie County Manager, John Eller

Nearly three months into the role as your County Manager, I must start by saying that I am honored to represent this community and am looking forward to many years of public service for residents who call Davie County home.  I have had the great privilege of meeting a number of amazing people, many of whom I am proud to work alongside here at the local government level and look forward to building new relationships to move Davie County in a purposeful and proud manner.

As a County Manager, I am committed to serving the tax payers of this community and will make a focused effort to keep you updated on things that affect you as a resident.  I look forward to continuing dialogue with you through channels such as this e-newsletter, but also look forward to increasing the ways in which both me and our staff communicate with you.  This is a special place and I look forward to doing my part to make Davie County the best it can be.

A New Year. A Purposeful Direction.
More than 40 department heads and education leaders participated in the kick-off for the County's Strategic Planning process, held on March 7th at the Davie County Library.  The purpose of this day long event was to help begin a community-wide conversation on what makes Davie County a great place to call home, but also discuss issues that should be addressed so that we progress, but still maintain our unique aspects.

Our initial session included department leaders from within Davie County government, as well as representatives from the education community.  Our goal is to begin conversations county-wide and additional sessions are being scheduled with representatives in the community from the non-profit, civic, faith-based and municipality sectors  Over the next several months, expect to learn more about this strategic planning process for all of Davie County and how we are planning for the future and Moving With Purpose.
March is Social Work Awareness Month
Social workers stand up for millions of people every day. These include people who are experiencing devastating illnesses and mental health crises, our veterans, children, families and communities. Yet many people still misunderstand who social workers are and the invaluable contributions they bring to society.

Child, family and school social workers stand up by protecting children who have been abused or neglected, helping children find new families through adoption, and ensuring young people reach their full academic and personal potential.  During the month of March, we encourage you to thank the social workers who serve our community.
Design Your Own Park Scheduled for Monday, March 20
The Davie County Recreation and Parks Department is entering its planning and design stages for the re-purposing project of the current Davie County High School. The final Design Your Own Park workshop is set for Monday, March 20 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Davie High School Media Center.  This is a unique opportunity for all citizens to provide thoughts and help shape the design of the new park project site.

The March 20th workshop will focus on indoor and outdoor programming elements, attributes and potential user experience of the new park project site.  Through a collaborative process, attendees will also gain understanding of the general trends associated with operations of each program element shared.  This workshop will be an interactive session geared for any Davie County resident or family who want to help shape the design of your new park.  For more information, contact the Davie County Recreation and Parks Department at 336-753-6051.
