We're on the move!

Hi <<First Name>>

We're well into the New Year now, and we hope that it's been a great one for you so far. We've got some exciting changes afoot - after 18 years at 126 Jellicoe Street, we’re on the move! You'll know the new building as Seeka's old head office (8 Queen Street), but with an extensive refit designed by local firm Page Henderson Architecture Ltd, it's being transformed into a brand new bright and modern space. The final date for the move hasn’t been set yet, but we are hopeful that we will be in by the end of April. As you can imagine, there’s a lot of logistical juggling going on, and the aim will be to have as little “down time” as we can. It’s possible we will be closed for a day while the physical move happens – but we will let you know once we have a firm date. We look forward to showing you around our new place!

In the mean time, here is the latest news from us, including another story in our newsletter series celebrating local businesses. In this edition, we look at the business success of Kiwi Produce; winners of the Bennetts Proactive Supreme Award at the 2016 Te Puke Business Excellence Awards late last year. To celebrate their success, we had our marketing team write a feature on Kiwi Produce, which was published in the Te Puke Times at the end of December.

Kiwi Produce - exemplifying everything Kiwi

by Rachel McLeod

From an interview with Geoff Oliver (right, pictured with wife Nicky Oliver, receiving the Bennetts Proactive Supreme Award from Lance).

Arriving at Kiwi Produce’s packhouse in Paengaroa is like a breath of fresh air. Surrounded by flowering trees and lush orchards in the full bloom of summer weather, the packhouse staff are a friendly bunch, and greet me with big smiles and words of welcome. Even owners Geoff and Nicky Oliver’s black lab Molly wags her tail in greeting. Displayed proudly at the front desk, amongst other awards, are the two recently won Te Puke Business Excellence Awards 2016; the Bennetts Proactive Supreme Award, and the Zespri Agriculture/Horticulture/Industrial Award. Standing within the bustling packhouse, it is my job to find out more about what makes this business such a stand out.

Are you ready for March 31?

With the end of the tax year fast approaching, please look over our check list below, and if there is anything you are not sure about, please give us a call now:
  • Incur an expense before 31 March and it is deductible
  • Debtors should be reviewed and bad debts written off as at 31 March
  • Work in progress should be carefully calculated as it does affect taxable income
  • Reviewing imputation credit account balances and considering shareholder continuity
  • Stock counts must be accurate as at 31 March 2017
  • It is important that the shareholder continuity rules are met to ensure losses and imputation credits can be carried forward

IMPORTANT NOTE: 7th April Terminal Tax

If you receive a letter or text message about your 7th April tax commitments from the IRD, as well as one from us, and they are similar - please disregard the one from the IRD. Please also disregard the IRD notification if you've been very organised and already set the payment to occur, or you have dropped your cheque into us. However, if the two letters are substantially different, please call us and talk to your accounting specialist, as our friendly team are here to help you.

When we create your tax reminder notice from this office we take many individual factors into consideration - each of you has your own scenario and unfortunately the IRD only see things from their collection perspective. Any anomalies will be sorted by our team, as the majority of times it’s the IRD not seeing your full taxation picture that has caused the difference.

Increase in the minimum wage

From 1 April both minimum wage and starting youth rates will increase. Make sure that you are aware of these changes so that you can update your payroll.

Well done Karen Hogg...

...who won our Christmas GST Hamper. A big thank you for the great effort you all made to get us your GST paperwork before we closed for Christmas.

Help with your myIR GST returns

Just a reminder that Michelle Oldfield is keen to help you if you’re thinking about using myIR for filing your GST returns. Please call us if you have any questions and let's make the new IRD system work for you – not against you.

Stacey is now Mrs Farrelly!

Congratulations to our lovely Client Services Co-ordinator, Stacey, on her recent marriage to Matt Farrelly. We had a great time enjoying celebrations with Stacey before the big day.

New client folders ready soon

Your client folders will be ready for collection from our Jellicoe St office from Wednesday 29th March. Any not collected by 25th April will be posted out – please remember this will incur an additional cost. Using our Client Folder helps to keep everything at your fingertips and streamlines the process when we do your annual accounts.

KiwiSaver payment deadline

If you make annual payments, these should be made by 10 June to ensure the fund managers process them in time for you to get your Government Tax Credit for this year.

Book your 2017 provisional tax review

Participating in this programme will allow you to budget for upcoming tax payments, and can minimize the amount of tax that you are liable for.

When will your 2017 work begin?

You’ll shortly receive a letter advising you of the scheduled start date of your work. If you have special timing requests, please let us know and we will do our very best to accommodate them.  We will be in touch near the start date to arrange your Records In meeting.  These meetings help keep your costs down by avoiding queries later. Please bring to this meeting your 2016/17 Client Folder, your completed client questionnaire, stock tallies and pricing proposals.

Advance notice: office closure

Our office will be closed Friday 14th and Monday 17th April for Easter, and Tuesday 25th April for ANZAC Day.
