            An Afternoon with Gwen

Join us for an informal book signing and chat with master quilter Gwen Marston on Sunday, April 2, from 2 pm to 4pm at the Port Gamble Pavilion across the street from Quilted Strait. Gwen will be in our neighborhood and has graciously agreed to come by, dole out a little quilting wisdom and sign books. Bring your own copies to be signed and of course, we will have books for sale as well.

Please bring your Gwen-inspired quilts and projects to share and we will create a little pop up gallery for the afternoon in the beautiful Port Gamble Pavilion space. This will be wonderful time to some enjoy some delicious bakery treats while you admire quilts, converse with like-minded quilters and catch up with Gwen!

It would help us to plan if you would let us know you are coming, but feel free to drop in as well.

Play with wool and dazzle yourself with a few clever embroidery stitches. Instructor is Darlene Sabo from Olympic Woolworks, and no need to spend time looking for just the right wool and threads, Darlene will bring a kit to class - you bring scissors and needle and you will leave with a finished needle book.
This new group is beginning in May and will meet monthly to share inspiration, techniques, and feedback. The group will be led by Barbara Ramsey, a Port Townsend quilter and teacher. The goal is to encourage one another to make new and improved improvisational art quilts. Group organization will be loose enough to accommodate those who want to to do their own projects, yet structured enough so that participants can also choose to work on exercises that will be suggested each month.

.....more Classes
Bargello quilts appeal to a variety of quilters. Make it traditional, or make it modern, you will learn to design your own bargello in this class with Ann Trujillo. Learn a few simple techniques and follow a few assembly guidelines and you will be able to design your own unique bargello piece, from table runners to a king sized quilt.

Sujata Shah is the author of the C&T publication "Cultural Fusion Quilts"and has taught classes across the United States. Sujuta explains that growing up in India rich colors, hand woven textiles and hand-crafts were part of her daily life. Her ability to work with colors and textures combined with her education in graphic design has helped her develop a unique style as a quilt designer. She has been inspired by the  irregularities and imperfections of utilitarian quilts and handmade crafts from around the world, and has developed abstract forms of traditional quilt blocks.
SCRAPS!
Local longarm quilter extraordinaire and piecing expert Marybeth O'Halloran and I are cooking up some new fun scrap piecing experiences for you to burn through your stash! She is excited to share ideas for modifying patterns and designs to make them scrap friendly! Stay tuned!

We, here at the Quilted Strait, are pretty good at making good use of every scrap of fabric that comes through our hands. When we get down to bits and pieces left on a bolt of fabric, we make fat quarters, whatknots, 1/4" yard coordinated bundles and even scrap bags.

We learned all this from the best! Although our former co-worker Barbara is not sewing any longer - we have always been in awe of her ability to turn the smallest scrap into something that was a gift to someone, somewhere - quilts for all kinds of folks who needed comfort, bags for foster kids, table runners and placemats for auctions..... more
