 Healthwatch Assembly
Where would you go if you needed urgent, but non-emergency care, out of hours?

Many of us would head straight to A&E, but the NHS has been working hard to try and change this by providing alternatives.

At the next Healthwatch Assembly, we'll be looking at some of the options to make sure that you know who to call and where to go for help.

We'll be sending out more information on our speakers and venue nearer the time.

Healthwatch Needs You!
Recently, much of our focus has been on mental health. In fact, our two most recent consultations deal with the transition from young people's to adult mental health services and the mental health needs of the deaf and disabled.

So far we haven't received much feedback from you on these important issues and without you, our work is stopped in its tracks.

With that in mind we thought we'd use this edition of our Ebulletin to give people another opportunity to tell us what they think about these important aspects of our mental health service.

It won't take longer than 5 minutes to complete each survey and we'll pass what you tell us to our local Mental Health Trust for action.

NHS Prostate Working Group
& PSA Focus Group
The NHS is providing locals with the opportunity to get involved with their Prostate Working Group which will develop an innovative pathway enabling men with stable prostate cancer to receive care at their GP practice. The group will meet every six – eight weeks for two hours in Wimbledon. All volunteers will benefit from training, induction meetings and one to one support.

Anyone living in Croydon, Merton, Sutton, Richmond or Wandsworth can apply, particularly those who have been, or are being, treated for prostate cancer or carers/family members who have looked after someone affected by the illness.

The NHS will also be running a PSA Passport Focus Group. Anyone who can bring a south west London perspective to the group, or whose voice is seldom heard in healthcare planning, is particularly welcome.

Further information and application packs can be found on the NHS website.

April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month and this year it's dedicated to raising awareness of bowel cancer screening services, which can improve early diagnosis of the disease. Although bowel cancer is the UK’s second biggest cancer killer, it is treatable and curable, especially if diagnosed early.

Those people between the ages of 60-74 and registered with a GP should receive a free NHS bowel cancer screening test in the post every two years. But this will only help if you complete the test and send it back! At the moment in some areas of the UK, only a third of those who receive a test in the post complete it.

There are many ways you can help support Bowel Cancer Awareness Month - visit the website for more information and tips.

Anything you'd
        like to tell us?
Don't forget, if there's anything that you'd like to share with us about something you've experienced at a local health, social or mental health care service, then please let us know.

We like to hear about all kinds of experiences, negative and positive (we're nosy like that), so don't hesitate.
