Our vision to build a tiny home to create awareness on the home ownership challenges for Aboriginal youth has become a reality thanks to the contributions from you and our Vernon community. The project has undergone several modifications which is common when new projects take an unconventional approach to development. Winter conditions were among the factors to slow the project down. We are excited to resume construction in the spring.
The First Nations Friendship Centre together with the Aboriginal Management Association (AHMA) are delighted to announce their collaboration on the Tiny Home Project. AHMA contributed with a kick-starting grant and even volunteered with the initial framing of the home. AHMA now looks forward to bring this project to completion as the Project Manager and primary contact on behalf of the Friendship Centre.
Opportunities to re-think construction and our approach to building communities are rare and this could be of benefit in other parts of BC and the rest of the country in the future. AHMA and the First Nations Friendship Centre are deeply encouraged by the many people in the community who already see its potential, in fact few building projects have generated as much goodwill and interest.
