Film Screening - Arrival
Sunday, March 19 at 3 p.m. the 2016 film Arrival will be shown and discussed as part of our movie program. Arrival, which won an Oscar for sound editing and was nominated for six others, including Best Picture, has been called a "thinking person's sci-fi pic." More than special effects and the threat of an alien invasion, it is a dialogue about understanding each others' languages and concepts of time. It stars Amy Adams as a language professor sent into the presence of aliens to save the world.

Saturday, March 25. This year, volunteers will work with Habitat for Humanity on houses that were damaged and/or flooded during Hurricane Matthew. Churches are not being assigned specific addresses as in past years, so workers are encouraged to show up singly or in groups to help in many ways. Work starts early, around 7:30! Report to Habitat Village off Old Wilmington Road to participate: Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 400 Cool Spring Street, Fayetteville 28301.
Luke 14 Banquet - Table Sponsors Needed
Would you and your church friends like to sponsor a table at the Luke 14 Banquet, Saturday, March 25?  Altar Guild committees, Sunday School classes, ECW, Daughters of the King, choir members, Cursillo reunion groups... Get some volunteers together to decorate a table for this special event for developmentally disabled adults! The cost is $25 per table, which helps defray the cost of the meal. Each team needs to provide a host to sit at the table with our guests during the meal and two servers to go back and forth between the kitchen and Smithson Hall, where the banquet will be held. In addition, each team will decorate the table with a spring theme and fix up little goody bags for the guests to take home. Please contact Sybil Sasaki at sybilsasaki@hotmail.com or Mary Farr of Haymount United Methodist Church at marf@nc.rr.com as soon as possible.  This is a great opportunity to serve a part of our community that is often neglected, as well as a chance to work on a worthy project together and build team spirit!
Luke 14 Banquet
Luke 14 Banquet, also held on Blitz Day, March 25. St. John’s is providing the venue for this annual special dinner for developmentally disabled adults. We will need volunteers to help decorate Smithson Hall and the side entrance with a spring theme. The invitation to the banquet reads, “O I Am in the Garden with Jesus,” so we will focus on spring flowers, bright colors, balloons, plants… Please share your ideas! We also need volunteers to assist Don Stewart with directing traffic with our limited parking situation. Contact Sybil Sasaki at sybilsasaki@hotmail.com to volunteer!
