DAY 15–Prayer
“Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. And being in agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground. (Luke 22:42–44 ESV)
A prayer of relinquishment is a recognition that “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me” (Galatians 6:20). It is handing over to God what we really want to cling to for ourselves. It is practiced humility. It is releasing to God all that we hold dear, even those things given to us by God.

For each of us, this prayer will look different. All of us hold onto different things, and to different degrees. What this prayer will do is release us from that which is not God. He may in turn give back to us what we gave to Him, but the prayer of relinquishment relieves us of that decision. Ask God to show you something you hold too dearly and pray over it, “Not my will, but yours, be done.”
Father, I abandon myself into your hands; do with me what you will. Whatever you may do, I thank you: I am ready for all, I accept all. Let only your will be done in me, and in all your creatures—I wish no more than this, O Lord.
