It's Time to Fundraise!
A HUGE thank you to everyone who has been busy fundraising, especially those who have already smashed their individual and team goals!.  Together you've already raised nearly $40,000.
Let's not stop there - we've got a long way to reach to our common goal of $250,000.

How is your fundraising going?
Every trekker is asked to fundraise a minimum of $250.  That's only five $50 donations or ten $25 donations.  Our top fundraising tip is 'just ask' - it's that simple!  One of the easiest ways to fundraise is to write a short personal message about why your doing the Trek, why the causes are important to you, maybe a pic of your training and pop it along with your fundraising link on email, text or social media and ask people to support your endeavours with a donation.

Need some inspiration?  Here is what some of our fundraisers are up to.
Here's how the crew at Coulter Roache are doing it!
The 15 staff taking part in the Trek have come up with some great fundraising initiatives like selling healthy lunches and yummy snacks to their office colleagues, and office fundraising events such as a wine and cheese night and a Girls Night In.
Shona - $500 to date
Shona is trekking as a personal challenge (having lost 30kgs!) and has found her family and friends really want to support her.  She has found that sending personal text messages along with her fundraising link has worked well.  She has also sent her link and her story to her Telstra workmates; who have also been very supportive with donations.  "People love hearing the personal story and they love an opportunity to connect to community with their donations."
George- $700 to date
Residing in Melbourne George thought fundraising for Geelong causes might be tough, however has found the opposite. "The reception to fundraising for a local event has been good. Some friends have holiday houses in Torquay and Aireys Inlet and like the idea of supporting localEveryone knows I'm not a 'natural long distance walker' and I've been sharing my training photos and progress along with my fundraising link mainly on Facebook and the donations are rolling in."
More ideas ..
- One trekker asked guests to her recent birthday to donate to her page rather than bring a gift.
- Another held an office cupcake morning tea.
- One team is organising a movie night at the Pivitonian Cinema, another is holding a movie night at home.
- Another is asking people to donate $1 per km, sounds more fun than asking for $40!
- There is also a garage sale planned for the end of March, double whammy - fundraising and cleaning out the house!

The key tip is just get started, simply let people why you're trekking, share your personal story, maybe some pics and ask them to support you with a donation.  Don't forget you're fundraising for the Kids Plus Foundation and Give Where You Live Foundation, for further information or to learn how your donations are making a difference click below.

Trekkers in the Spotlight
Team G21
After participating in the inaugural Surf Coast Trek, signing up the team to participate once again was an easy for Team G21 Region Alliance Last year we had an absolute ball training and participating in the Surf Coast Trek!” said Elaine Carbines, G21 – Geelong Region Alliance CEO and Team Captain.

It was a fantastic relationship building exercise and we all felt a huge sense of achievement." As well as wanting to once again take on the physical challenge of the Trek, Team G21 are also great supporters of the work both the Give Where You Live Foundation and the Kids Plus Foundation undertakes.
“G21 works in partnership with the Give Where You Live Foundation on the GROW initiative and know firsthand the work in the community that is taken to address disadvantage.  This is a cause dear to G21 and to raise funds for our community’s people is a motivating factor to take on the Surf Coast Trek

Currently on top of the fundraising leader board having raised over $3,400; Team G21 have found that communication is key for getting donations.

“We’d really like to raise more than we did last year and for us using more than just one form of communication has really worked. We use our social media networks, our newsletter, emails and a whole lot of different ways to distribute the message.  People really respond in different ways. You’d be surprised with what you may receive.”
