On-Site Free Dental Clinic on March 30th –Two weeks away!
There are still 13 spots left for our on-site free dental clinic on Thursday, March 30th from 8:45am-1:00pm. We don't want you to miss this amazing opportunity where five experienced students from the Dental Hygiene department at SRJC will be offering teeth cleanings, dental exams, and instruction in oral hygiene, all of which are free our students (K-8th Grade).

If you are interested in having your child receive a dental exam and a teeth cleaning please pick up a packet from the office or click here to download your forms and return the completed forms to the office no later than Friday, March 24th.

Please note that there are only 13 spots available and reserving a spot for you child is on a “first come first serve” basis so the earlier you return your forms the better. We will have a waiting list of 3-4 students just in case a student is absent on the day of the cleaning. We will notify you via email only if your child has a spot on the list of 20 or is number 1-4 on the waitlist. If you have any questions please call Makena at (707) 824-2844 ext. 104!
Thank You 1st Grade Parents
We would like to thank our wonderful first grade families for providing the Faculty with a delicious meal at our meeting last Thursday. We are so grateful for your thoughtfulness.
6th Grade Student Needs Unwanted Socks For Sock Drive
Please help support our local homeless community by donating new socks. Salomon Schoffer, as part of his 6th grade community service knighting project, has chosen to help our local homeless community, via the Community Church of Sebastopol. One of the greatest needs for the homeless community is socks (children’s, men or women socks). There will be a container in the hallway near the 6th grade class. We know that the generous souls of SunRidge can help make a difference in the soles of our homeless community members.
HomeSchool Open Application and Orientation
The last day to submit applications for the 2017/18 SunRidge K-5 HomeSchool Program will be on Saturday, April 1st, 2017 at the orientation meeting. The orientation meeting will be held from 10:00-11:30 at 7285 Hayden Ave in the SunRidge HomeSchool Room (southeast corner of the school.)  Please RSVP for the orientation to Callie Almand at calmand@twinhillsusd.org.
A Fresh Look At Our Spanish Program
The Spanish program emphasizes exposing the students to as much Spanish as possible.  For the homeschool program and 4th and 5th grade, Spanish classes have included games, movement, skits, culturally relevant stories and artwork. The 6-8th graders are now attending Spanish classes in a new classroom with freshly placed photos and maps. Recently, Maestra Dana told them the story of Vejigante, a Puerto Rican folkloric character often seen as part of Carnival festivals, (see photo below). The story is about an adolescent boy living in poverty who works his very hardest to earn the money to participate in the carnival where all the boys his age dress up in costume as the Vejigante. Through this story our students learn what it means to work hard for something you want. The 6-8th grade curriculum over the past couple of weeks has focused on everything related to food. Students are learning and practicing vocabulary and conversation, making guacamole, and creating restaurant menus to share with the class.
Maestra Dana received a generous grant from the Rotary Club and is purchasing 4 different kinds of Spanish to English Dictionaries and a wide variety of Spanish storybooks. We are happy these new resources will continue the development of providing our students' a rigorous, culturally relevant, and engaging experience learning a second language.
Free Golden Rod Starts
Late summer blooms are beautiful golden flowers that can be used for dyeing. Contact Callie at calmand@twinhillsusd.org.

Hot Lunch Order Form Error Fixed
There is a mistake on the first version of the March-April hot lunch order form. There will be no hot lunch on Friday April 7th as it is a short day, though it was erroneously listed as a regular pizza day on the form. The cost of food ordered for April 7th can be carried forward and applied to the May-June hot lunch period. Sorry for any inconvenience. Click here to get your updated form.
Aftercare Survey –last week to fill out the survey!
We have created a survey that will help us better understand what the needs of our school community are in order to create an aftercare program in the future. Please help us by filling out this short five-question survey, which will tell us what is needed in terms of days and hours in a week, as well as a proposed aftercare cost. Please click here to fill out the form.
Every Pledge Counts
Your pledge ensures that we are able to continue offering the programs that you expect and your child deserves. As of now, with more than half of the year completed, we are at a total of $123,210, 55% of our goal, which is 10% short of where we should be at this time of the year. We need your pledge now in order to raise $225,000 by June. Please don’t wait, if you can, send your contribution today.

Waldorf Education emphasizes growing a whole and healthy child through academic learning enriched with artistic and practical activities in the classroom, outside in nature and in the larger community. Parents and community members contribute about 14% of the school’s budget through pledge.

Currently, more than three quarters of all SunRidge families are pledging and we rely on every family’s participation. If every child’s family pledged $250 or more per month, we would reach our goal. We know this is not possible for everyone but we need you to pledge as much as you can on a monthly basis. Your donation can be deducted from your 2017 taxes, and may save you money, too!

Our faculty and staff are truly grateful to be able to provide this type of education for you and your children. Thank you!
Pledges Received through February 2017: $123,210
Pledge Participation Rate: 84%
The amount needed to be on track through the end of February is $146,250.

Childhood Fevers Article
Dr. Debra Gambrell has shared a link/article, which addresses an Anthroposophical view of Childhood Fevers. Here is a little excerpt of the article, “When faced with a fever in our child, a parent can have many different responses and resulting reactions. Some of these are based on the current moment, but most are actually based on beliefs about fevers that we learned in our own childhood. “Don’t let the fever get too high, you should treat the fever with Tylenol or Ibuprofen, you should take the child to the doctor, you should let them sweat it out, you should eat this, don’t eat that”, and on and on... Our views of fever determine our relationship with it.” Click here to read the full article.
