President's Message

In an era of seeming disregard for the National Constitution and the general Rule of Law we want to make sure we continue to fight for the ideals that were important 50 years ago and are still important today.

Early in CBID's creation nearly 50 years ago we wrote a constitution to help guide the club and provide rules and principles to ensure fairness and transparency. It has had a few amendments and we are asking you to consider a consolidated and updated version now. However, at the beginning we have some very basic principles of the club that have never changed and we still try to adhere too, and I wanted to share them with you so that we can be held accountable to them.

ARTICLE II
Purposes

The purposes of the Club shall be

A. to provide an independent, vigorous, liberal Democratic organization in the 44th, 51st, 52nd, and 57th Assembly Districts and their immediately adjacent neighborhoods in the County of Kings

B. to encourage the participation of all people in the affairs of the Democratic Party;

C. to seek and support candidates for public office and party office of ability and integrity who are dedicated to public service, to promote measures designed to serve all the people, and to encourage the appointment of qualified public officials and employees without regard to political sponsorship;

D. to further the interest and participation of all citizens in the political and civic affairs of our community

Benjamin Solotaire, President CBID

CBID is in the process of revising and updating it's constitution. Over the years several amendments have been made and not always captured. Recently a group of Executive Committee members met to reconcile what were three different versions of our Constitution. We have posted that new version and present it for your review. While we are not recommending any amendments we are following that procedure for this version. We are presenting it here, and will be voting on it this month.

Fundraiser for National Progressive Grassroots Groups

Come join us for a fundraiser to help groups that are organizing in the states we can and must win.  Here's your chance to drink, commiserate and help make a critical impact.

What:  The Long Game Fundraiser No. 1: Critical Grassroots Organizing

When:  Thursday, March 30, 6:30 - 8:30 PM

Where:  Ode to Babel -- 772 Dean St., Brooklyn NY.  Beer, wine and light refreshments served.

RSVP:  longgamefundraiser@gmail.com

Why?

In these troubled times, we can't just try to defend our values from attack (although we have to do that).  We also need to help groups on the ground in key states around the country as they talk to voters about the issues they care about. The right spent the last 20 years doing this organizing - and now they have the White House, both houses of Congress and the Supreme Court.  We need to learn from what worked for them, but with a progressive and compassionate agenda.

How?

We'll host fun parties and introduce you to legitimate, experienced organizations around the country that are building grassroots power in red and purple America.  We'll have representatives and organizers from these organizing groups speak so we can hear about the work they are doing.  And together we'll fund the on the ground work that can change elections and national priorities.

Featured Organizations

Our first two beneficiaries were chosen because they are doing critical grassroots organizing in Arizona -- a state on the frontlines of immigration policy with a rising tide of Latino voters -- and North Carolina which has been a testing ground for right-wing policies at the state level, and faces a rising tide of white supremacy in rural counties.

Down Home North Carolina

Bring friends. Suggested donations to the groups we feature is $100 or more as you are able.

A note from Ex-Comm member, David Michaelson:

Three CBID members attended last Sunday's GA-06 fundraiser put on by a group Joy and I work with tentatively called Bagels and Resistance (though Sunday they were Dumplings and Resistance!). This is a very important race. There are some 11 candidates running in this special election and the two top winners of the April election will go to a runoff. Jon Ossoff is the frontrunning Democrat and is very likely to be in the runoff.

The fundraiser on Sunday was the first fundraiser put on by the Bagels and Resistance group and raised over $8000. Ossoff's campaign says this was the top fundraiser they have had outside of Atlanta, Ga. This was very grassroots, no big names, no experienced fundraisers, nothing fancy, just some enthusiastic New Yorkers determined to resist Trump.

The Bagels and Resistance Group is aiming to also raise funds for some North Carolina groups  (this is the committee Joy has been working with), for candidates in Virginia (I have been working with this group), and is considering targeting the IDC here in NYC. So I will mention their efforts as they come up, but it seems like an effective group.

Until the next fundraiser, you can help raise money for candidates in Virginia. A few CBID board members have already donated...hoping some more will as well:
