Young Writers Award
On Wednesday night John Hanson student, Holly Hevicon, was invited to the Guildhall to celebrate her Highly Commended writing in the annual Rotary Club's Young Writer competition. In the local rounds of the competition, Holly's writing, entitled 'Reflection', was up against stiff competition from our rival schools, to be one of the five finalists in the Intermediate category. The writing was judged by esteemed author Bryan Beggs (a previous judge at our own Big Write competition) and Andover Advertiser's Head of Editorial News, Mike Sims, whilst awards were presented by the Mayor of Test Valley, Councillor Karen Hamilton. Many congratulations to Holly.
Muddy Runners
After 10 weeks of preparation 16 John Hanson Muddy Runners took part in the Back to the Trenches event near Gatwick on Sunday.
The 3.5k run contained over 20 obstacles which saw them crawling through, up and over, muddy trenches, tyres, haystacks, firepits, water slides, 10 foot walls and submerging themselves in muddy water pits! They all finished the race covered head to toe in mud and completely wet through! They all had the most amazing time and all want to do it again next year.
The John Hanson Muddy Runners Club is a Sportivate initiative that has been partially funded and run to gain funding to start the new Andover Junior Park Run which began at the beginning of March. All children aged 10 upwards can take part at Charlton on Sunday mornings running a 2k course starting at 9am.
We hope to continue the John Hanson Muddy Runners club again in September when our current Year 7’s will also be able to join.
We would like to say a huge thank you to the Muddy Runners team who have been running the JH Muddy Runners Club every Tuesday and who accompanied and ran with the students at Sunday’s event.
