HOLY WEEK SERVICES (April 9-16)

Join us for Holy Week as we gather to experience the life, death and resurrection of Jesus the Christ. After celebrating Palm Sunday on April 9, we will have one service in three parts to celebrate Holy Week. Come and take part in all aspects of the services. 

  • Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m.
  • Good Friday Open Communion from 12-3 p.m.
  • Good Friday service at 7 p.m.
  • Easter Sunday services at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m. (with Kids Konnection), and 11:15 a.m.

SIX STRONG SHOULDERS AND A MARY NEEDED

We will have short dramas at our Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday services. To help tell the Easter story, we need six strong volunteers (of both sexes) and a Mary for Easter Sunday. To get involved, contact Heather Hammel (717-285-5156 x246, hhammel@hempfieldumc.org).

STORY OF THE EMPTY EGG AND FLASHLIGHT EGG HUNT

This is no joke! Join us on Saturday, April 1 from 7 - 8 p.m. for our next fellowship event. Pastor Buckbee will share the story of the Empty Egg followed by a flashlight Easter egg hunt for walking toddlers through 12 year-olds. Sign up at hempfieldumc.org/egghunt or visit the lobby table.

MEN'S BREAKFAST ON APRIL 4

Come and join our men's breakfast on Tuesday, April 4, at 8:30 a.m. at Old Hickory Restaurant on Oregon Pike. Ken Hussar will be our devotional leader.

EASTER REMEMBRANCE FLOWERS    

You may purchase a spring tulip in memory or honor of a loved one this Easter. Remembrance Flower Cards are in the lobby for you to complete and include with your $6 donation (checks made payable to HUMC). Instructions and more information available at the lobby table. Flowers may be picked up after the 11:15 a.m. Easter service.

TAKING OUR PRAYER INTO THE WORLD

Join us for "A Day Apart" 2017 spring retreat on Saturday, May 6 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Hosted by the Contemplative Community of HUMC, this day is offered to you to explore your passion for service and awareness of God's presence in the context of our times. Learn new possibles of being a light in the world as we put our prayers in action. Retreat sign-up sheet and car pool info is in the lobby and prayer room. SUMMER MISSION TRIP OPPORTUNITY

There are still openings available for the Shout mission trip to LA on June 10-17. Adults and youth (15 or older) are invited. The cost is $950. Contact Clarence Hogan (chogan@hempfieldumc.org) to go. 

VIP EVENT FOR GRADUATING SIXTH GRADERS

Shout will host an event at Laserdome on May 5, from 6-9 p.m. for all graduating sixth graders. Parents can learn more and register students by contacting Clarence Hogan, Youth Pastor, (chogan@hempfieldumc.org).

EASTER HOSTS/USHERS NEEDED    

We need extra hosts and ushers for Easter Sunday at our 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11:15a.m. services. No experience required. Training provided. If you are interested in helping, please sign up in the lobby or contact Heather Hammel (717-285-5156 x246, hhammel@hempfieldumc.org).

HELP GIVE AN EASTER MEAL 

Donations of one-pound cans of coffee, powdered drink mixes, powdered pork gravy packets and small boxes of tea bags are needed. These items can be placed in the lobby Giving Basket by April 3. We will be purchasing hams, five-pound bags of potatoes, carrots and rolls. Easter meal items will be distributed to the families on April 12. Checks to purchase these items may be offered to HUMC, with Easter Relief on the memo line.

OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE AT OUR CHURCH

  • Fellowship Team Coordinator - The Fellowship Team provides food support to other HUMC ministries to help them provide a comfortable time of fellowship. The coordinator arranges for fellowship team members to fill the needs of our ministries. Events include: new members lunches, Christmas Eve snacks, and more. If you have a love of food, and a flair for organization, please contact Gregg Maberry (gmaberry@gmail.com or 314-3470).
  • Paid Child Care Providers - You choose the dates and time slots that you can fill for each month. Safe sanctuary and clearances required. Contact Kristie Beatty (kbeatty@hempfieldumc.org).
  • Hosts - Help greet people, hand out bulletins, collect the offering, and serve Communion. Serve four months a year. Training provided. Contact Heather Hammel (hhammel@hempfieldumc.org).
  • Grocery Gift Card Volunteer - Help at the table selling the grocery gift cards for our Feed Yourself, Feed the Church program that supports Hope Ministries. Contact Jeff Steiner to learn more (jeff.steiner.js@gmail.com) or stop by the table in the Spirit Cafe to volunteer.
