Speaking up for community pharmacy

Pharmacy Voice closure plans confirmed

In December 2016, the NPA gave notice that it would leave Pharmacy Voice at the end of 2017. This triggered a clause in Pharmacy Voice’s governing documents which prevents the organisation continuing without all three of its founding members. As a result, the Pharmacy Voice Board have been discussing how the organisation will cease operations, and how its representative role reverts back to its constituent member associations.

We can now confirm these processes will be complete by the end of March, with the Pharmacy Voice office closing at the end of April. Subject to legal requirements and timings, the organisation will be formally wound-up over the Summer.

Updated Emergency Contraception guidance
The Faculty of Sexual & Reproductive Healthcare (FSRH) of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists has updated its Emergency Contraception Guidance.

The recommendations aim to enable healthcare professionals to give the women in their care the best choice of emergency contraceptive methods to suit their individual needs and circumstances. It reflects the most up-to-date evidence and information on the effectiveness of the differing methods of emergency contraception, how they compare to each other, contraindications and any restrictions in use.

FSRH’s guidance hopes to bridge any gaps in awareness and knowledge - giving clear evidence-based information to UK healthcare professionals, nurses, doctors, pharmacists and all those involved in advising and caring for women who wish access to emergency contraception.
