Strong SW winds whipped Lake Superior into some of the largest waves we have seen for some time. 66 mph wind gusts were recorded in the harbor. By mid-afternoon 14 – 15 foot waves were crashing into the shoreline sending spray over the lighthouse. Many visitors spent time on the shore watching the waves. Lake Superior was in such a frenzy that spray from the waves was coming over HWY 61 in downtown Grand Marais.
