A PLACE AT THE TABLE
Campaign for a New Dining Hall at Lazy F Camp and Retreat Center

While growing up in Minnesota, holidays like Easter were one of the few times of each year that my extended family would gather. Siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and spouses would come together to relish (though usually not a part of our menu) our time together. It was always interesting to see how the home would be arranged to squeeze in the thirty-some people. Somehow, everyone always fit and we gathered around one table for grace. The meal was always delicious and being able to be with family was fantastic.
At Lazy F, the large gatherings happen more than several times each year. Actually, about 25% of the time we are NOT able to have people comfortably share a meal at one time. This year is no different and we saw several weekends this winter with up to 170 people, this spring it will be tight virtually every weekend and with each of our school groups during the week.
I am very pleased to share that we are making great progress on the solution to this issue. Friends of Lazy F like you have responded to the call to join together to provide a place at the table for everyone.
Matching Opportunity Exceeded!
In October several friends of the camp challenged us to match their pledge of $150,000 before the end of the year. I am pleased to announce that you all responded in a big way! Many people joined the effort when they heard of the opportunity, others gave a second or third time. All in all, $182,000 was given in three months. With the matching incentive this totals $332,000! Thanks be to God!
Murdock Grant
In February we received notification that we will be awarded a $100,000 grant from the Murdock Charitable Trust in Vancouver. This will be a "top off" grant meaning this will be the last $100,000 as we reach our fundraising goal of $1.75 million. Consequently, we need an additional $250,000 to receive this grant. Seeing what you have been able to accomplish recently, I know we will be able to succeed!
Ground Breaking Goal and Construction Plans
We set $1.4 million as our goal to break ground on the new facility. More good news: this has been achieved in the last month! We are working hard to complete the construction plans, but honestly, there is a lot of activity in the construction market and people are swamped. Most aspects of our plans are complete, and we should be ready to get them out for bid in early April; the same time we will be submitting plans to the county for building permits. This is a bit later than we had hoped, but we still have several feet of snow on the construction site, so everything may come together on God's time! We will keep you informed of ground breaking plans and get some gold spray paint so we can get one of our old shovels ready for the big ceremony.
Joe Seemiller is volunteering to remove trees within the building's footprint. We are sad to see these trees cut, but excited to share that these same trees will be utilized in the construction of the building. Joe has a portable saw mill and his gift to the project is to cut the material into items that will become a part of the finished product. Since it needs to adequately dry before it is installed, this material will not be included in the immediate construction, but you will need to examine the construction to see if you can pick out the local wood!
Plans to Reach the Fundraising Goal
As mentioned before, an additional $250,000 is needed to reach our fundraising goal, and more is needed to fulfill the cost of construction. There are several aspects of how this will be achieved:
 We are reaching out to all churches in our United Methodist Conference to ask for their support.
 Connecting with contractors to provide gifts in kind to keep the construction cost down. Now is the time we need your help!
 A special event for Wenatchee area folks on Sunday, June 4th at the Reinholz residence in Cashmere to share our plans and an invitation for their involvement.
 Please continue to keep this project in prayer. God has been a great guide, and there is still lots more ahead on this adventure!
THANK YOU for your involvement in this endeavor! This new facility really will be the signature building on our site and I look forward to sharing news about the progress YOU have helped make happen. Ultimately, I look forward to sharing a meal with you in the new dining hall.

Providing a Place at the Table for All,
Dave Burfeind

PS If you have not yet given, please consider being involved! Some friends of the camp have fulfilled their pledges and several have "re-upped" their commitment, or given again. We humbly reach out to folks who have fulfilled their initial pledge to consider continuing to give on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis. Your willingness to continue your regular gift would be a huge asset in helping to reach our financial goal and complete the construction.
PSS. We have enclosed our new brochure for retreat groups. Please share this with a friend so they may become a part of the Lazy F family.

Lent is a time of reminding ourselves who we are called to be in this world.
Our Lenten series is inspired by Amos, a prophet whose message is that God calls us to let “justice roll down like waters.”
Amos says, “I hate, I reject your festivals; I don’t enjoy your joyous assemblies… Take away the noise of your songs. I won’t listen to the melody of your harps. But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.”

Does this mean that we are to give up our worship? That God does not want our worship? No… but worship without justice is not acceptable.

Through powerful music and the remembrance of our rituals of baptism (the origins of Lent), this season will offer us reflection and renewed inspiration to let our voices be tuned to the heart of the Gospel–proclaiming God’s love for all people.

As we move into this powerful season we invite you to consider what you might let go of, or conversely, take on, that will allow you to feel the love of God more vividly in your own life.  All so that on Easter Sunday you will be able to celebrate the gift of life with renewed hope and a sense of justice and love for all.
