THE WEEKLY TRINITY TRUMPET:

March 22nd - March 29th

This week we celebrate the
Lenten Journey to the Cross

with Lent Wednesday Service tonight at 7pm and Sunday Service at 9am on March 26th!

This Wednesday 7pm, we continue our Tool Bag Sermon series focusing on the "Tape Measure". We measure the world all the time.  We measure exams, driver’s license, food, and Facebook posts with number of likes.  In Seminary, students are constantly measured to see if they will make the cut to be a pastor.  Constantly being measured can and often produces negative effects on our lives, simply because we will never be enough.  We also bring measurements into our relationship with God.  We are always trying to quantify the input and the output that we become lost in the world of faith.   Join us tonight as we name this difficult reality. The food is on at 6pm.  Peace!!

On Sunday, we walk with Jesus on the road who stumbles upon a blind man.  Jesus makes some mud and places it on the blind man’s eyes, and after washing the mud off the blind man can see.  This is not just a healing story, but a handicapped story.  So often our handicapped are voiceless.  Even today in our culture a disabled person can scream for help on the sidewalk and the world will walk right by.  This gospel lesson shares that same dynamic.  The beauty is that the unnamed blind man becomes a disciple of Jesus and shares his faith with ease.  I often wonder how we are handicapped in faith because so often sharing faith is the last thing we do in our relationships.  Join Jesus on this path and together may God open our eyes.

Lent 2017
As someone who enjoys tinkering, for years I have used the excuse of a project to buy a new tool.  I bought a saw to make flower boxes for my mother-in-law, a sander to refinish the table in my office in college.  We need tools and use tools every day.  A computer, a needle for cross-stitching, a welder, a lawn mower, and a phone are just a few tools we use.
When it comes to living out a faithful life, we also use tools.  We need tools to have good relationships, tools to reach out to our neighbors in faith, tools to build, and tools to take down.   Tools can help us perform a task with ease and tools can help us bring out the beauty that is within.  Join me on Wednesday nights at 7pm during this season of Lent to talk about tools and how we use them in our everyday lives of faith.

WEEKLY VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
Family Promise of Albany County

Family Promise of Albany County is still moving forward towards helping homeless families in Laramie.  We are half way to the goal of 13 churches being host organizations. Trinity is a guiding partner in this community program so if you would like more information or just want to talk about where FPAC is, please talk with Mike Nutter.

There are two fund raising programs FPAC is heading up.  Please take a look at them in the foyer and see if this is something you, or a group you are a part of, would be interested in helping.  It takes very little from many to make a difference.

  1. Club 307 – This is asking for an annual contribution of $307 that can be donated throughout the year or all at once.  For less than $6 a week, you can provide a week’s worth of support for several families in the program.  Please see the Club 307 cards for specific details.

  1. Prescription Bottle Coin Collector – Fill the prescription bottles up with extra change and return them to the church office when you can.  Then use the bottles over and over.

Both these programs will be continual efforts you will see throughout the religious and local community establishments.  We can be examples of God’s love within our community.

Claiming Our Gifts Video Series
Join us in the Sactuary as we walk together with Bishop Gonia on Sunday’s at 10:30am, after Worship Service, continuing this Sunday, March 26th.  Let us claim the gifts God gave us this Lent and proclaim them with the world!

Rocky Mountain Synod has prepared a video series called Claiming our Gifts.  Bishop Gonia leads this 5-part video series, which will be available for Lent. These videos will be around 15-minutes with  discussion prompts, making them a great resource for adult Bible study.

If you missed any of the videos in this series, you can find them at this link:

Sky Ranch Camp
On July 23-30, all youth of Trinity are invited to join Pastor Nate at Sky Ranch Lutheran Camp in  Colorado.  The week is unique because Sky Ranch is offering youth events for all ages.  Young kids will attend for a few days at the beginning of the week, middle school youth will be there all week at the camp, and older youth will have opportunities to serve off-site, white water raft, and experience a high ropes course.  Pastor Nate is planning to stay at the camp all week to spend time with Trinity’s youth, and all Wyoming ELCA congregations are planning to attend that week as well. So don’t miss out on this awesome opportunity!

BIBLE PASSAGE FOR THIS WEEK
John 9:1-41

BIBLE PASSAGE

As he walked along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned; he was born blind so that God’s works might be revealed in him. We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” When he had said this, he spat on the ground and made mud with the saliva and spread the mud on the man’s eyes, saying to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means Sent). Then he went and washed and came back able to see.

The neighbors and those who had seen him before as a beggar began to ask, “Is this not the man who used to sit and beg?” Some were saying, “It is he.” Others were saying, “No, but it is someone like him.” He kept saying, “I am the man.” But they kept asking him, “Then how were your eyes opened?” He answered, “The man called Jesus made mud, spread it on my eyes, and said to me, ‘Go to Siloam and wash.’ Then I went and washed and received my sight.” They said to him, “Where is he?” He said, “I do not know.”

They brought to the Pharisees the man who had formerly been blind. Now it was a sabbath day when Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes. Then the Pharisees also began to ask him how he had received his sight. He said to them, “He put mud on my eyes. Then I washed, and now I see.” Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, for he does not observe the sabbath.” But others said, “How can a man who is a sinner perform such signs?” And they were divided. So they said again to the blind man, “What do you say about him? It was your eyes he opened.” He said, “He is a prophet.” The Jews did not believe that he had been blind and had received his sight until they called the parents of the man who had received his sight and asked them, “Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How then does he now see?” His parents answered, “We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind; but we do not know how it is that now he sees, nor do we know who opened his eyes. Ask him; he is of age. He will speak for himself.” His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jews; for the Jews had already agreed that anyone who confessed Jesus to be the Messiah would be put out of the synagogue. Therefore his parents said, “He is of age; ask him.” So for the second time they called the man who had been blind, and they said to him, “Give glory to God! We know that this man is a sinner.” He answered, “I do not know whether he is a sinner. One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see.” They said to him, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?” He answered them, “I have told you already, and you would not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become his disciples?” Then they reviled him, saying, “You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses. We know that God has spoken to Moses, but as for this man, we do not know where he comes from.” The man answered, “Here is an astonishing thing! You do not know where he comes from, and yet he opened my eyes. We know that God does not listen to sinners, but he does listen to one who worships him and obeys his will. Never since the world began has it been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a person born blind. If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.” They answered him, “You were born entirely in sins, and are you trying to teach us?” And they drove him out.

Jesus heard that they had driven him out, and when he found him, he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” He answered, “And who is he, sir? Tell me, so that I may believe in him.” Jesus said to him, “You have seen him, and the one speaking with you is he.” He said, “Lord, I believe.” And he worshiped him.

Jesus said, “I came into this world for judgment so that those who do not see may see, and those who do see may become blind.” Some of the Pharisees near him heard this and said to him, “Surely we are not blind, are we?” Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would not have sin. But now that you say, ‘We see,’ your sin remains.
