Alpine Skiing
The morning started with thick fog which brought new challenges for the skiers doing their divisioning runs for tomorrow's slalom race. Visibility was down to 30 meters but that didn't stop the athletes doing their best and they have all competed divisioning successfully and we are now waiting to hear which categories they will race in tomorrow.

The afternoon was spent in Schladming shopping for gifts for famliy members and buying momentos to remind the athletes of their time out here

Athlete Leader Ian Harper -
Unified Talks presented by Bank of America
I have returned from Schaldming in Austria in which I had a the best two days of my life
First I went to the Founders Ball the night before I did a speech in which it was a great show hearing from the Global Messagers & Tim Shriver the Special Olympics Chairman.
I then went to do a speech early the next morning as part of a group panel which included Kelly Fredickson the Vice-President of Bank America which was Co-Hosted by Chris Hull & Global Messager Brightfield Bryt Shadi from Botswana who was brilliant & I was in awe of him & proud to be one of his new friends.
Later I met the 21 SOGB athletes & chatted with them, they all were enjoying the games & were proud to be part of the World Stage while they were all being interviewed by ITV & they met Torvill & Dean so it was an honour to meet them & I wish them luck for the rest of the World Winter Games.

  • We attended the opening ceremony with our new friends- 25 countries and 44 young people with and without intellectual disabilities
  • We had a cultural evening, sharing a Scottish Caley dance and swapping cultural gifts with Special Olympics New York City!
  • We learned about how to evaluate our projects- and develop ways of finding out the impact our work can have for young people with intellectual disabilities
  • We delivered a workshop on Influencing Community Leaders- and received lots of positive feedback on all our work we are doing for Play Unified in the UK.
