3/23/2017 - Something really NEW at CCC

CCC Newsletter

3.23.2017

What's NEW?  .   .   .    this is   .   .   .   the "BOSS" !!

And what does THIS thing have in common with  "Women of Curling"?  ...
Meet CCC's Laura Tait!!

Laura is a fellow CCC curler and a Level 1 (Canadian) Certified Ice Technician!
Laura is originally from Chicago, and went to school at the University of Wisconsin Madison.  She moved to Phoenix in 2006 to be closer to family and took up curling in 2007 after seeing it on TV during the Salt Lake City Olympics.  It didn't hurt that she  happened to be dating Shawn who curled with the Coyotes at the Ice Den. Laura saw a chance to learn something new and to spend more time with her now-husband.  “From Day 1, everyone was so welcoming and willing to help me learn. It really made it easy to come back after trying it out (and after I'd figured out how many layers to wear to make it through a game),” she says.  Laura was a Marine Biologist for 15 years but made a career change into banking after moving to Phoenix. She’s now a Performance Coach in Mortgage, helping teams and individuals improve every day. She is also a dedicated club volunteer, helping improve our facility every day! “I spend most of my time working alongside Shawn on the ice (although often we are there at opposite times and I'm there when no one else is). It is pretty unique for our club to have a woman Certified Ice Technician, so I'm actually pretty proud of that!”  Now that the Women's League has started on Wednesday nights, Laura is spearheading a drive to have more women ready and willing to help prep the ice before games. Date and time for ice crew training is coming soon!
And because Laura spends a lot of time with "the Boss"  . . .
She recently started a fundraiser to cover the costs of our new, badly needed, Ice Master machine - this is the very important machine that cuts the ice and gives us great ice to curl on. The new machine, and a few other related items, cost close to $10,000. A custom puzzle of our ice machine has been designed and contributions are represented by pieces of the puzzle being filled in.  Please consider helping us complete the puzzle which will be permanently displayed at the CCC.  Contribute to the "BOSS"!!  So next time you are at th club, head to the bar and ask to buy a piece!!!
You can go to http://www.coyotescurling.com/Contribution.html and DONATE for a worthy cause!

NEW LEARN-to-CURL EVENTS
The most effective way to attract new members to the Club is through our Learn-to-Curl program.  If you know someone who is interested in learning and trying curling, our next Learn-to-Curl events are scheduled for:
  • Saturday  -  March 25  -  11am to 2pm
  • Sunday  -  April 2  -  1pm to 4pm
Volunteers are always needed to assist with this program.  If you are an instructor, a helper, wish to be an instructor or a helper and are not on the Learn-to-Curl distribution list but wish to participate, please send an email to learntocurl@coyotescurling.com and ask to be included!
