Slate-Z Partnership Backbone Organization

The project acts as the governing body for The South Los Angeles Transit Empowerment Zone (SLATE-Z), a historic and diverse partnership of more than 50 public, private, and community-based agencies and organizations working together with South LA residents to expand economic opportunities. SLATE-Z won designation as a Federal Promise Zone from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in 2016 to help address high rates of poverty in the communities served.

Teens Exploring Technology

Founder and CEO Oscar Menjivar presented the teen coding organization’s innovative programming for South LA teen boys at SXSWedu, the educational component to SXSW. READ MORE

100,000 people walked, biked and ran through the San Gabriel Valley's ambitious open streets event spearheaded by BikeSGV on Sunday, March 5.

Coinciding with the one-year anniversary of the Foothill Gold Line Extension, the 626 Golden Streets event opened 17+ miles of roads to cyclists, walkers, skaters and more between South Pasadena and Azusa. Modeled after thousands of ciclovia and open streets events around the world, the San Gabriel Valley’s 626 Golden Streets involved two years of planning and working with six adjoining cities, vendors, sponsors and community supporters to create the longest stretch of open streets yet.

The Future of California Elections annual conference brings together election administrators, community organizations, and reform advocates to discuss the latest developments in the field of elections. The 2017 conference offered thought leaders an opportunity to learn about California’s diverse electorate and to engage with election colleagues from across the state and the nation. Secretary of State Alex Padilla (pictured above) opened the conference and the keynote address was delivered by David Becker, co-founder and executive director of the Center for Election Innovation and Research in Washington, D.C.

Ramadan in LA: A Date with Islam

LA Commons in partnership with Muslim community leadership invites Los Angeles to experience Ramadan, the annual month that alternates fasting and feasting, with the intent of bringing people together to better understand Islam. Tuition Support Available to Community Partners Project Staff

Thursday, May 5; 10-11:30am

Community Partners has been chosen as a recipient of AJU MBA's ChangeMaker Partnernership Grant. The grant will provide $30,000 towards tuition costs for employees of Community Partners' projects accepted into the Nonprofit MBA program. For employees to be considered, their supervisor/project leader must nominate them on behalf of the organization. If selected, candidates will receive tuition funding and fifty percent of their coursework will apply to their project. LEARN MORE
