Friday 24 March - Friday 31 March

GENERAL INFORMATION

Open Day - Friday 7 April
Open Day is on Friday 7 April from 2pm – 6pm.  School will start at 10.20am on this day to allow for the later finish (the same arrangements have been made for Athletics next Friday - please see notice under 'Sport' below). School buses will run at the normal time so girls can complete prep in their Year Level ‘hang out’ space until school commences. All girls are required to wear dress uniform and be in attendance until 6pm. Alternative transport needs to be arranged for day girls and boarders to travel home for the weekend. This is an important event on our school calendar and we look forward to welcoming many new and prospective families. Please warmly welcome anyone in the community to come and see us in action.  For more information please visit:  www.woodford.school.nz/open-day

A reminder to check you have all of the correct winter uniform items. If you require anything, please remind your daughter/s to visit the uniform shop on Monday or Thursday during lunchtime.

ACADEMIC

Year 7 and Year 8 Homework Club
All Year 7 and 8 students are invited to attend the Homework Club every Tuesday from 3.20pm – 4.30pm in H118. The Club is run by Tajpreet Padda, our Academic Prefect. This is a great opportunity for girls to catch up on prep or receive extra academic support from our senior students.

Learning and Pastoral Conferences
An opportunity to meet your daughter/s’ Homeroom Mentors and discuss their progress to date is available on Friday 31 March from 1pm-2.30pm. This coincides with the Woodford House Athletics Sports event in the form of a Learning and Pastoral Conference. The Homeroom Mentor is your first port of call for learning and pastoral conversations at Woodford House as they have the best picture of your daughter/s’ learning journey.  Student attendance is most important for next learning steps to occur. When students are not involved in the conference, they will be attending House Music rehearsal. We then welcome you to join us at the Twilight Athletics Championships down on the school fields.  To make appointments please click on the following link: https://sobs.co.nz/pt/parent.php and make an appointment with your daughter/s’ Homeroom Mentor only. At the end of Term 2 all Years 7 -13 students and caregivers can choose to be involved in 5-minute ‘course-based’ interviews with other teachers.
Should you have any difficulties with this process please contact Assistant Principal - Teaching and Learning Dionne Thomas at dionne.thomas@woodford.school.nz

CULTURAL

Chapel Choir Rehearsal
As part of our preparations for Big Sing, the Woodford House Chapel Choir will be participating in a workshop with highly respected choir conductor, vocalist and choral adjudicator Christine Argyle. Christine will work with the choir members on their vocal technique and fine tuning the selected Big Sing music. This workshop will be held at school on Friday 31 March from 7pm - 8.45pm. If you have any queries or concerns please email Performing Arts Co-ordinator Fiona Mackenzie: Fiona.Mackenzie@woodford.school.nz

International students meet the Mayor
The International Students have been invited to attend an afternoon tea with Mayor Lawrence Yule on Monday 27 March at Iona College. This is an annual event where all Hawke’s Bay International students are welcomed to the region and shown support and appreciation for the contribution they are making to strengthen global ties. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions and share experiences.

House Music Rehearsals
Rehearsals are well underway and will continue every week on Monday 3.30-4.30pm and Thursday 3.30-4.30pm until the end of Term 1. All girls are expected to attend unless they have a sport commitment or have been excused. Girls need to tell their House Prefect if they will be absent and the reason why at least 24 hours prior to the rehearsal. Attendance will be taken. Out of school appointments eg: driving lessons, should be scheduled for another time.

The Gala House Music event will be held on Thursday 11 May. This year there will be only one performance. Mark your calendars. Any queries contact Josephine Carpenter or Fiona Mackenzie.

The Village Green Opening
A selected group of performing arts students will perform at the Havelock North Village Green opening on Saturday 1 April from 11.15-11.45am. An email will be sent to the parents and caregivers of those selected girls.

SPORT

Athletic Sports - Friday 31 March
School will start at 10.20am on Friday 31 March to allow for the later finish due to twilight Athletics (the same will occur on Friday 7 April due to Open Day). School buses will still run at the normal time. Girls can go to their Year Level ‘hang out’ space until school commences. Girls may wear PE uniform to school and need to be in attendance until the completion of Athletics (approximately 6.45pm). Alternative transport needs to be arranged for day girls and boarders to travel home. The move to host Athletics back at school was due to the unavailability of the Regional Sports Park. The event starts at 3pm. Family and friends are welcome to come along and support the girls.

Holiday Programme
The Woodford House Sports Academy Holiday Programme will be running again this year. This is for 5 – 10 year olds and will run from Wednesday 26 – Friday 28 April. To register please click on the following link: http://www.sporty.co.nz/woodford/Sports-Academy/Holiday-Programme
