EPA Formaldehyde Rule Extended
The effective date of the EPA formaldehyde regulation, originally March 21, has been delayed until May 22. There is no indication that there will be changes in the regulation. The presumed reason for the delay is that newly arrived political EPA appointees need additional time to learn about the regulation and determine whether or not to conduct a substantive review.

Canada, France, And Denmark Limit Formaldehyde
France notified the EU that it intends to require labeling of formaldehyde emissions in furniture beginning in 2020. It will create 4 classes of formaldehyde emission standards: A+, A, B, and C. Denmark also notified the EU of upcoming restrictions on the manufacture and sale of furniture and furniture parts made of wood-based materials that release formaldehyde. Formaldehyde emissions must not exceed 0.124 mg/m3 (0.10 ppm) for wood-based materials used in furniture. The limit for furniture will be 0.134 mg/m3 (0.11 ppm).

Wood Flooring Gets EU Ecolabel
Decision (EU) 2017/176 established EU Ecolabel criteria for wood, cork, and bamboo flooring. Use of the EU Ecolabel is voluntary. The criteria are designed to encourage lower energy use in manufacturing, to drastically limit VOCs (volatile organic compounds), and to limit harmful chemicals used for fire retardants, binding, and finishing. In addition, products bearing the EU Ecolabel must originate from certified sustainably managed forests.
