                                                                                        March 29, 2017
Dear Parents, Guardians, Alumni, Parishioners, and Friends of Assumption-St. Bridget School,
Please continue to keep our St. Bridget Pastor, Fr. Haydock in your prayers.  He continues to recover from multiple health concerns.  Thank you!
Thanks to all parents who made a point to attend one of the State of School meetings last week.  We are so appreciative of your attendance, feedback and participation as an informed parent.  Many of you who did not make it, have already come by and touched base with me and that is also appreciated as we work hard to keep you informed.  Our State of School presentation is viewable on our website.   You will find it under the “About us” tab and click on State of School.  The last slide is a survey link that is open for the remainder of this week.  We would love your feedback.  Some have criticized the format of the survey.  This is a format our faculty and staff adopted this year as a suggestion from our Director of Student Success, Kathleen Conklin.  We have found this type of surveying to be highly beneficial to support a culture of continuous growth and improvement.  Mrs. Conklin had been exposed to this survey format during her administrative program and felt the format can be informative in gathering data on what is working and what are identified areas of growth.  Thank you for taking the time to participate in this short survey.
We join with Catholics around the world in the second half of our Lenten journey.  As the North Seattle Region of 13 Catholic schools, we are joining together this year for a regional Good Friday observance to all families and students to participate in.  “Day to Unplug” will be a time for all of us to do just that- unplug and center ourselves on Christ and His message of love and grace.  Please click HERE for suggestions for families and for us as a school.  So please take note that there will be minimal power usage while at school for students.  We will answer the main phone line in the office, but will not have our computers on that day in observance and reverence.   As a school and part of the ASB tradition, our 7th graders will present the Stations of the Cross to the entire school.  More details on this will be forthcoming and parents are invited to attend.  All students will be leaving the building in silence as well, reflecting on the goodness God has given us in His Son, Jesus.
In March and April, the focus of our new Self-Regulation curriculum is understanding perspective; the lens through which we view the world and the lens through which others view the world.  We have begun to discuss the theme, "We are more alike than different."  A few weeks ago, we welcomed guest speakers in honor of Down Syndrome Awareness Day.  This coming Sunday, April 2, is World Autism Awareness Day.  Self-regulation lessons next week will help students understand the lens that shapes experiences of people with Autism and continue to build the idea of unity and community.  Check out "Just Like You" Down Syndrome and Autism videos on You Tube - they are inspirational and heart-warming. Continuing discussions around these topics and promoting these skills is a great extension to the classroom!
Looking forward to seeing all of you this weekend at our annual musical production!  “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” tickets can be purchased through the link on our website.  Good luck to all actors, actresses, tech and support crew.  Thank you to Mrs. Olsen, drama teacher, and Ms. Zolotusky, drama assistant, along with the many volunteers who have put in countless hours to make this musical come to life!

In Christ's Peace,
Christina Vierra McGill

Parent Board Annual Survey - WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!
Thank you for your support of Assumption-St. Bridget School!  One area of focus for the Parent Board is to collect and represent the views and priorities of the community. This survey is one of the ways that we gather feedback and it is the only way we have to hear from each of you. Please take a few minutes to share your thoughts HERE .  All responses are anonymous unless you choose to share your name/email and request a follow-up.
Please respond today; our survey  will close for responses on APRIL 4.  Your valuable feedback will determine which after school clubs and parent education events take place in the 2017-2018 school year.  Don't waste this chance to make your voice heard! Thank you for making ASB a wonderful community!
Registration Volunteer Form - Action Required
It’s time to fill out your 2017-2018 Family Service Hour Volunteer Form! Please remember this is a required step to complete your registration process, and each parent/volunteer can fill out the form specific to them.

Our ASB School community thrives because of the tremendous gifts of time and talent provided by all of our volunteers.  Please remember that volunteer hours may be contributed by parents, students, other relatives, friends and neighbors.  Each family (grades K-8) is required to complete a minimum of 35 volunteer hours to the school or parishes, including one hours of traffic duty per child.  The requirement for Pre-K families is a minimum of 18 volunteer hours to the school or parishes.

This year we have created an online form for families.  Please find the link below, as well as in an email that will be sent directly to you.  Please use it to indicate what areas you are interested in volunteering for the 2017-2018 school year.

To access the form visit the link.
If you would like to see full descriptions for all the positions offered, along with time commitments, please visit the link.

The ASB Walkathon

An email was sent to all families on Monday with information on signing up for the Walkathon. Here's the link again!

As a reminder....

What's the Walkathon?

An ASB fundraiser that involves our students. Friends and family donate to their walk - or jog - around our block. This year, we are not asking for a per-lap pledge but a one-time donation from families and friends.

What's our goal?
$50,000 is our goal this year. Funds raised go into our operating budget and help us pay for teacher salaries, student success services, enrichment classes and so much more!

What's the commitment?
We recommend that ASB families donate $100 per child or $200 per family (if there's more than one child).

Contests and Free Dress!

  1. Families that raise more than $250 get a free dress coupon for every child in their family!
  2. The class that raises the most money gets a pizza party!
  3. The runner-up class gets doughnuts!

What else do I need to know?
This year, ASB will be using the Greater Giving Website to solicit and track donations for the school. Many of you may be familiar with the site from our auction. Each family will need to set up an account to track their family's fundraising for this event. We are not sending out envelopes to collect donations this year - we hope to do it all online. You only need to set up one webpage per family, not each individual child.

For instructions, please click this link!

Clarification on Parish Reflection Forms...

Annual Parish Reflection Forms provide an important opportunity for your family to reflect on your current and future parish involvement. It also allows Father Oliver and Father Haydock to connect with each school family. Obviously doing so takes a lot of time; each pastor has offered that time throughout the coming weeks. If you are unable to connect with your pastor this week prior to the 3/31 registration deadline, your signed Parish Reflection Form can be turned in separate from the rest of your registraion materials.

Assumption:  Father Oliver is making himself available to sign Parish Reflection Forms after Masses, and by office hours each week (you will receive an email from the parish with current hours).

St. Bridget:  Since Father Haydock is still recuperating with his recent health issues, Parish Administrator Michael Palmer is signing forms in his absence.

Extended Care registration for the 2017-2018 school year is now OPEN.  Registration forms are available on the ASB website. Families that choose an Extended Care prepayment plan for the 2017-2018 school year, and submit their registration forms to ASB by June 15, 2017, will have their Extended Care registration fee waived.

Registration for Summer Extended Care or Camp ASB is now open.  Similarly to the past two summers, Camp ASB will not be open during the month of August.  There are a great deal of facilities projects that can only be finished when students are not on campus and August is the only time that ASB School has available to complete these projects. I am still working on the 2017 Summer Calendar, and will plan on having that available to families by Spring Break.

KinderCamp is also returning to ASB for the 2017 summer.  KinderCamp will run in two sessions. Session one will take place the first week that school gets out, June 19-23 and will be held Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Session two will be held the last week of Camp ASB, July 24-28 and will also run Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Planning for KinderCamp is in its final stages and will be finalized and available to incoming kindergarten families shortly.

If you have any questions about Extended Care or Camp ASB, do not hesitate to contact me, I am happy to assist in whatever way that I can.

Thank you,
Dylan Pouley

Extended Care reminders:
  • Extended Care will be CLOSED, Friday, April 14, when ASB School is dismissed at 12:00 p.m. for Good Friday. Please plan accordingly.
