St Chad's House: a place of healing and retreat

Coming up at St Chad's House...

I am really looking forward to the events that are coming up at St Chad's House with opportunities to take a little bit of time out or to gently refocus.

If you've never tried a quiet day but you'd like to spend some time with God, the two upcoming quiet mornings might be the ideal chance to give it a go.

'The Meal Jesus Shared' is a good time, towards the end of Lent, to ponder afresh who this Jesus is and what he means to us as well as the significance of the meal that we now share as Holy Communion/Eucharist/Mass.

And 'Stepping Into the Story' gives a chance to spend time with a Bible story in a different way - visually, imaginatively, creatively - and see what it says to us.

These events offer a stimulus for contemplation with guidance on ways to spend the quiet time; but with no need for anyone to share with others unless they want to. The key thing is to provide a space where you can have your own time with God.

Many blessings

The Meal Jesus Shared

This morning will look forward to the events of Holy Week and the meal that Jesus shared with his disciples before his Passion. We will spend time with different aspects of that evening.

Outline of the morning

The day will begin with morning prayer together and a led reflection to introduce the theme. We focus on one part of the last supper at a time, with quiet space in between for individual reflection.

At the end of the morning we will share a home-cooked meal together as well as bread and wine.
(There can, of course, be non-alcoholic or gluten free alternatives if required.)

Suggested donation: £8.

Stepping Into the Story

Exploring a Bible narrative with the senses and imagination.

This short day will use Godly Play, which is suitable for people of all ages. It's an approach that engages the senses, imagination and creativity in hearing the message from scripture for us today. This morning will be particularly good if you are new to Godly Play and would like to see how it can be a helpful tool for adults.

Outline of the morning

The morning will begin with gathering in the Chapel with the story of the Exodus presented through Godly Play. There will then be quiet space and an opportunity to respond individually - through creative media, reading, or simply enjoying the time in a quiet part of the house. This is a contemplative exercise where we may discover something new of God or simply a peaceful space.

There will then be an opportunity to share for anyone who wants to.

At the end of the morning we will share a home-cooked meal together.

Suggested donation: £10.

And our Monthly Quiet Days

Our monthly Quiet Days are an opportunity to enjoy some quiet space with not too much structure. There are three times of Celtic style prayer together with the rest of the day for individual quiet time.

The days offer space for you to spend your own time with God as well as a focus for worship.

At the end of each day there is also prayer for healing and wholeness and an opportunity to be prayed for if you want to.

Lunch is provided.

Suggested donation is £10.
(If the cost is a barrier you are welcome to come and give what you can.)
