Time for CCANW to go global with 'Water Culture'.
This May CCANW's founding director Clive Adams has been invited to a UNESCO International Workshop in Venice to speak on how artists address the challenges that face our waters today and to launch our new 'Water Culture' programme.
When creating their exhibitions and activities, Water Museums are increasingly calling for interdisciplinary approaches to the world water crisis; a lack of clean drinking water and desertification, flooding and rising sea levels, to plastic pollution in our oceans, amongst other concerns. These and many other environmental issues are already being addressed by artists because the arts can engage people in ways that science and conventional education frequently fail. CCANW's aim is to create many such new opportunities for artists in the future.
The Workshop 'Towards a Global Network of Water Museums' brings together directors/representatives from Water Museums and Interpretation Centres from around the world and is organised 2-4 May by UNESCO's International Hydrological Programme. The new Network's aim is to increase their potential to work together and to increase their impact on policy makers, stakeholders, researchers, educators and the public at large.
This is just the beginning of a multi-year strand of activity that will include hosting the Global Nomadic Art Project, a series of sci-art projects with partners at Science Walden (at Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, S. CCANW's Soil Culture programme was the UK's most substantial contribution to the UN International Year of Soils 2015. Like the SoilCulture project, Water Culture will result in one or more publications. Have you purchased SoilCulture yet? You can do so in our shop.
CCANW is now based at Dartington, along with partners art.earth and RANE
A little while ago we sent out details about our new membership scheme. As we said then, in order to make these exciting new projects happen it's vital that we recruit at least 100 members before the end to this month. Well, we're nearly half way there.

In addition, we will shortly begin a monthly ‘featured artist’ page on the website, which will highlight the work of one of our members.
As a member you can post information about your work, and about events or exhibitions of your work. As well as reaching the thousands of visitors to our website, this information will also be included in the monthly CCANW mailing which goes out to almost 4,000 subscribers across the world.

In the Garden Room Gallery until March 27 ‘The Dream and the Underworld’ features work by Jim Carter and Lucy Kerr.
From March 30 to April 18, we feature the work of Clare Bryden and Liz McGowan, with an opening reception on Friday March 31 from 17.00 – 19.00.
First Fridays continue, moving in April to a different site on the Dartingon estate. We will hear from Ben Altman, an English-born artist based in the US. He says:
'I trained as an artist by studying physics, towing icebergs, racing sailboats, and working in commercial photography My work explores histories of mass violence and how they intersect with the contemporary world. I work with photographs, installation, video, and participation.
