CRA’s ability to collect tax owing from
third parties including beneficiaries
and mortgagees

Ian Morris, CPA, CA, B.C.L, LL.B., TEP, is a senior tax practitioner and represents domestic and international clients in tax controversy matters with the Canada Revenue Agency and with the Ontario tax authorities. He has broad experience dealing with the different audit and appeals branches of the CRA, and the Ministry of Finance. He routinely appears at the Tax Court of Canada and the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.

Ian obtained his designation as a Chartered Accountant in 1982 and then graduated from the University of Ottawa Law School (B.C.L./L.LB.) in 1986. He has been a member of the Quebec and Ontario Bars since 1988, as well as the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario. After being admitted to the Law Society of Upper Canada, Ian was employed by the Department of Justice in Ottawa where he worked in the Legal Services Branch and later in the Tax Litigation Section. He then joined the Department of Finance as a Tax Policy Officer.
