NESTING HOME
"In distress you called, and I rescued you; I answered you in the secret place of thunder; I tested you at the waters of Meribah." - Psalm 81:7
All day from my Queen Anne home I have listened to the lament of the birds. They are crying aloud, "Tweeet, tweeet, tweet!" matching the" beep, beep, beep" of the backhoe in reverse as it destroys the old bay laurel hedge.
If you didn't know better, you would think they are rejoicing at the sunshine and promise of spring in the air. But no, their habitat is being destroyed and they are lamenting for the bay laurels thick foliage uprooted by the monstrous backhoe.
They cannot save their hiding place, their nesting home, their future young, their innocence.
The leaves rustle and whisper laments as well, groaning as the thick centers of the laurel hedge are ground under the jaws of the backhoe.
I mourn, I bless the fallen branches. Come displaced ones, make a home in the trees in my yard. Come and be a part of my community.
