Kudjip Nazarene Hospital Papua New Guinea

“Now all glory to God, who is able...to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.” Ephesians 3:20 (NLT) These are common folks who are making a tremendous difference for the missionaries as well as the Moms and newborns at Kudjip Nazarene Hospital.       By Rosie Addington

I have seen God at work through Operation Warm Baby.  I found out about OWB at General Assembly in June of 2013.  The Nazarene Hospital booth in the exhibit hall caught my attention, and I picked up a flyer from the table.

Over the next few weeks, the project kept coming to mind.   In my quiet time, scriptures would jump off the page.  One in particular was Isaiah 58:7.  “Give clothes to those who need them…”   One day, I tuned into a favorite radio program.  The topic was “Children in the world who have inadequate clothing”.  The next day’s program talked about Proverbs 31 and pleading the cause for the poor and needy.  At church, we sang the song “Follow You”.  It talks about going into the world and meeting the needs of the poor and needy.  God’s call became very clear! My mother also heard God’s call and we became partners in this ministry.  My father had passed away three months earlier.  God had told my mother that He had something He wanted her to do. When she first saw the flyer, God told her, “This is it!  This is what I want you to do!”

I felt led to talk with my pastor about the project.  Soon the whole church joined in!  Friends, family, neighbors, and people I didn’t even know found out about the project and donations started coming in!  God provided very nice clothes at yard sales for .25 and .50 each.  Some were brand new with tags on them!  God provided incredible deals in summer clearance sales.  By combining sales and coupons, some items were even free!

Soon we had a lot of sleepers and onesies but we didn’t have diapers, plastic pants, and many of the other items.  I began to wonder what to do.  In Sunday School class that week, the scripture was Philippians 4:6 “Don’t worry about anything; instead pray about everything.  Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.”  About a week later, I received a phone call.  Someone said, ”We have three dozen diapers for OWB.” Thank you, God!

During the first nine months, God had provided enough supplies to send 201 baby packs! And
the story continues to tell of God’s faithfulness and provision. We are blessed to  have many volunteers in our church.  My mom, Louise Addington, irons all the receiving blankets and prays for each baby as she irons their blanket.  One week she washed, dryed, and folded about 33 loads of cloth diapers!

Bryce Weigand, a five-year-old boy in our church, is an “Operation Warm Baby Team Member.”  He has his own badge and volunteers weekly.   A few weeks ago, Bryce raised $5 for OWB.  In His perfect timing, God blessed us with a clearance sale at a children’s resale shop enabling us to buy seventeen items with that $5!! A few weeks later Bryce came running up to me, reached out his hand and said, “This is for OWB.”  It was a rolled up five dollar bill.  Later, his mother told me that he had received the $5 in a valentine from his great-grandparents.  He had insisted that the money be given to help the babies.  THIS GIFT OF LOVE REMINDS ME OF THE YOUNG BOY WHO GAVE HIS LUNCH TO JESUS.  JESUS BLESSED IT TO MEET THE NEED!

Meet the Missionaries

 MEET SC0TT AND GAIL DOOLEY!

Scott and Gail Dooley have been serving the Church of the Nazarene as Missionaries to Kudjip Hospital since 2003.  Scott came to PNG as a family practice doctor while Gail joined the family at Kudjip Hospital as a surgery nurse.

Scott has served as the Hospital Administrator since 2010.  His recent focus is leadership development in Kudjip Hospital among the Chaplains and Supervisors.  Gail has recently been  able to spend four days a week at the hospital in surgery and also the clinic.  She has a passion for interacting with staff, patients and nursing students. Her desire is to develop a relationship with all those she works with which will not only bring about improved communications, but  also, will display the deep love of Jesus Christ throughout the many areas of hospital ministry.
Scott and Gail have three daughters whom Gail has home schooled at times.  Allison is a freshman at Mid America Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas. Emma is a 10th grader and Olivia is in 6th grade. The girls enjoy school, tubing on the local river, and sometimes helping with the storage room and giving out donated gifts.

The Dooleys want to thank you for thinking of them and most of all for remembering them to the Father in your prayers. Your partnership in prayer is a very important part of their ministry.
