The number of GPs treating patients who have hepatitis C with direct acting antiviral agents is growing steadily as experience and treatment success build confidence.
Although it is estimated that 82% of people living with hepatitis C in Australia have been diagnosed, many of these people have either not been informed or are unaware of the implications.
Emphasis on screening in general practice remains critical to attaining the goal of eliminating hepatitis C as a public health threat within 15 years.
New agents continue to be released on to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme thus increasing access to oral, short-duration, effective treatments.
The new National Cervical Screening Program guidelines are now available.
The guidelines cover the management of screen-detected abnormalities, screening in specific populations and the investigation of abnormal vaginal bleeding.
The guidelines are available now to allow health professionals to prepare for the transition to the renewed National Cervical Screening Program.
They are for reference purposes only until the renewed program is implemented.
