One modern phenomenon these days is that everyone's life is so busy. It's important to put aside some time to yourself  - whether that is clearing a block of time to do nothing, or something that you enjoy. We have one-off workshops for people who are too busy to commit to a term class, and we offer health and wellbeing classes such as mindfulness and tai chi classes. See below for more details.
Class vacancies
Tai Chi 
We have vacancies in this gentle exercise class suitable for all ages.  Relax the body and focus the mind with Anna in gentle exercises based on Beijing 24 style of Tai Chi.
Wednesdays 8.50–9.50am, starts 19 April.  $135 (9 weeks)

Yoga
Enjoy the benefits of Hatha yoga. Yoga's combined focus on mindfulness, breathing and physical movements brings health benefits with regular participation. Mindfulness based stress reduction
This 8 week course, in two parts, helps you learn and practise living in the present and coping better with everyday life stressors. Participants will purchase a book with CD to use in daily practice. Led by qualified psychologists. Tuesdays 7.00-9.00pm. Starts 27 April (8 weeks). Cost $220 
School holiday programs - take a break from your kids!
Heroes and villians lego 
Join Bricks 4 Kidz®, the world's leading provider of educational play using LEGO®, for an exciting holiday program themed around the latest movie release. Children will build models of all of their favourite Bat characters in a fun and engaging program for children aged 6-13. Monday 10 April 9.30am - 12.30pm. Cost $40/$35 if enrolling more than one child

Cactus fun 
Join the fabulous Emma Grace and choose from colourful recycled materials to create gorgeous hand-stitched fabric cactuses. Tuesday 11 April 9.30am - 12.30pm. Cost $55/$50 if enrolling more than one child

Workshops
Growing organic food for busy people
Do you want to grow your own organic food but feel like you don't have enough hours in the day? Come along to this 2 hour presentation and receive practical tips on high production/low maintenance food plants, perennial versus annual food plants, sprouts and microgreens for a quick harvest and turning a polystyrene box into a wicking box.

Kokedama balls
The new alternative to bonsai, kokedama balls are becoming hugely popular for indoor and outdoor decoration. Learn how to make these fabulous hanging plants, grown in a ball of moss. Be prepared to get your hands dirty in this hands on class. Participants will make two kokedama balls (if time permits) and learn how to care for them.

Somali cooking demonstration
Learn about Somali cooking and culture from Abdi and Shukri of the popular food blog Somali Kitchen, followed by a cooking demonstration and food tasting.

New course
Younger onset dementia strength exercise program
The Neighbourhood Centre has received a grant from the City of Boroondara to run a weekly exercise program that is facilitated by a qualified YMCA fitness instructor for people living with younger onset dementia and their carers.  The program is designed to be appropriate for people with younger onset dementia and delivered in a caring and safe environment with the carer available to provide assistance. The class involves exercising core muscles using weights.
Sunday 14 May 10.am – 12pm.  $40/$30 SHNC members
 
Centre times
Please note the office will be closed the week commencing Monday 3 April and will reopen Monday 10 April. We will be closed Friday 14 April (Good Friday). Term 2 starts Tuesday 18 April.
