Social Media

Energy OutWest Started its very own Facebook group, “Energy Outwest Trendsetters”. It’s a private group, open to anyone who wants to join. You can ask technical questions, share articles, and just converse with people in your field throughout the nation. We encourage you to join and connect with your fellow Weatherization colleagues. You can find the group here.

Are you social media challenged? Have no fear, we are working on step by step guides to help you. From Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and SnapChat. Each time a new guide is released we will highlight it in the newsletter, and post it on the Energy Outwest website.
Checkout our “How To Facebook” and "How To Facebook: Groups" just in case you need some extra help. We also explain how to join Facebook groups, so you have no excuse to not join us in the Energy OutWest Trendsetters Facebook group.

Targeted Training: A New Materials and Documentation Class
By Jeffrey Granger

After the madcap years of ARRA training, New Mexico EnergySmart Academy (NMESA), like many other training entities, has settled in and been able to spend some time refining our trainings to truly fit the needs of our network, as well as provide the required Tier One IREC accredited trainings.

While we do live in a beautiful part of our country (breathless, high-elevation headaches for some, not-withstanding), travel, room & board, and time away from the office is not always an ideal mix for success (or production!).

Enter hybrid approaches. Why not combine eLearning and webinars with in-person training? Our Director pushed for change and oversaw curriculum development. The result? Students now had a self-paced, eLearning environment with a weekly webinar run by the course instructor. The ability to knowledge test on-line and the option to include student assignment submittals - written & videos - was followed by a much shorter stay in Santa Fe with much more available time for hands-on field based learning.

We made it to the mountain top. Time to sit back, have some New Mexico green (or red) chile, and wait for the phone to ring, right? Well, it did and fortunately, still does.

But, what’s next?

EOW at HPC 2017

The EOW Board decided to have a booth at the HPC/DOE National Conference in Nashville that took place from March 19-22.  It was a great opportunity to get to meet people from other states, and get the message out on the 2018 EOW conference.

Andy Etue and Arleen Novotney were manning the booth and spreading the EOW message of focusing on low-income weatherization from all points of view.  We learned that many state programs have not attended EOW yet.  They were very happy to hear that there was a conference that focused on the low-income programs from the crew out in the field to program management.

We also learned what they would like to see at the conference.  It was an enlightening experience that we will definitely put to use for the conferences to come.  We invited all to Phoenix in May 2018.
