Cardiff BID Update - E-Bulletin
View this email in your browser

The last few weeks have been very exciting as we work up our plans to get the BID projects underway. We must ensure that businesses see a return on investment and to help us do this we have set up a number of BID Sub Committees to help scrutinise potential projects and make sure they're right for Cardiff businesses. Many of these groups have already met and have made recommendations for the BID Board of Directors.

We are delighted to announce that the Street Ambassadors will be starting work on 10th April, we will have new hanging baskets and planters in the BID area in May, funded additional taxi marshals for the Wales vs. Ireland game and are looking at a trial to implement them at weekends in Churchill Way. We are also committed to pursuing Purple Flag, an accreditation scheme for the evening and night time economy to ensure an enjoyable and safe night out. Following extensive feedback we have also scoped the work required to deliver additional cleaning of the BID area and hope to appoint a contractor shortly. Finally, we've worked in partnership with BT to launch the Superfast Broadband pilot project for Castle Quarter.

We are working hard on multiple projects to help all the sectors and sizes of businesses that Cardiff BID represents, so keep an eye on our website and social media for updates on what we're working on and how you can get involved.

Regards

Adrian Field - Executive Director

Snowdogs: Tails in Wales
Cardiff is to play host to Tŷ Hafan’s ‘Snowdogs: Tails in Wales’ ten-week trail. The event will boost footfall, bring art to the streets, whilst highlighting iconic landmarks and open spaces. We are delighted to announce that we'll be sponsoring two Snowdogs, and support this event wholeheartedly. Interested in sponsoring a dog? Click here
Castle Quarter Superfast Broadband Pilot Project
Cardiff is a modern city but in the Castle Quarter, out of date internet infrastructure is holding businesses back. Cardiff BID has invested £44,000 in upgrading the area to superfast broadband by Spring 2018. This commitment has allowed us to leverage a further £60,000 from BT delivering excellent value for money to levy payers.

Purple Flag
The BID are seeking to obtain Purple Flag status for the city centre by Spring 2018.  The Purple Flag accreditation is a positive initiative that indicates a city or town centre has an entertaining, diverse and safe night out. It is a ‘gold standard’ and will raise the standard and appeal of the city centre evening economy and a benchmark for good night time destinations.
Taxi Marshals Wales v Ireland
Following consultation about how best to improve taxi facilities in Cardiff, the BID funded additional Taxi Marshals on St Mary St outside of House of Fraser. This proved to be very successful, with positive feedback both from the public and businesses. The BID are committed to improving taxi facilities and will look to run similar pilot schemes around the city centre in an effort to establish what works best.
Ambassadors
After extensive recruitment a dynamic and exciting team of 6 Ambassadors will join the BID and commence their training on 10th April. They will undergo basic Conflict Management and First Aid training as well as visiting key tourist attractions within the BID area so they can let locals, businesses and visitors know about what the city has to offer. They will begin their uniformed patrols and business visits the week commencing Monday 24th April.
