Target Team

A selected number of the Target Team attended the Essex Spring Games at Harlow LeisureZone when they took part in a variety of sports such as handball, boccia, boxing, tennis, badminton and a rowing competition.

The students competed against other Essex schools including Debden Park, Roding Valley, Davenant and Epping St Johns.

The rowing competition saw students trying to row the fastest 300m, and Louise Farmiloe won with a time of 1min 18secs.

All students had a great day and were able to meet students they had previously met at other events throughout the year.

It really shows how much the team has grown in confidence.

They have been able to show off their sporting skills which we have been practicing in lessons and were introduced to the skills needed for boxing, which none of the students had done before.

The event really showed the team's growth in sports co-ordination and communication skills and they supported each other as a team.

They are all team players and are proud to represent West Hatch.

Tamika Rose said: "We did some activities that we might not be able to do in school such as the boxing, I really enjoyed this. We had to warm up by doing the plank which is an exercise that helps strengthen your stomach muscles which is good in boxing.”

Robbie Beloko said: "We were able to mix with other schools for handball, I really liked trying the rowing machine as I have never done this before. I was surprised how heavy the handle bar was. It was hard work.”

Reece Mussington said: "We all worked well to support each other as part of the Target Team. I enjoyed playing squash as we had time to choose what activity we wanted to take part in. I enjoyed seeing people I had met before at other events.”

Louise Farmiloe said: "I was able to play badminton with a girl from Roding Valley, I enjoyed the boxing and was teamed up with someone that had an injured hand so we had to adapt the session so we could both take turns and make it enjoyable for her as well.

"I most liked the rowing competition as this was a good challenge. I really tried hard and ended up winning the fastest rower over 300m. I am really pleased.”
