Happy Spring, everyone!

It's officially the halfway point between Winter Solstice and Summer Solstice, and I don't know about you, but I'm so very happy to be celebrating the end (at least in theory) of winter this time around. It is so good for the soul to see things beginning to blossom again! I was lucky to get quite a nice sneak-preview of a brighter, sunnier season last week, though, during a tour that brought me all the way from beautiful Aspen, Colorado to the perpetually sun-drenched Port-au-prince, HAITI for the International Port-au-prince Jazz Festival! More on that in just a moment... first, since it's coming up so very soon, I wanted to remind you that we are greeting the new spring season with a show NEXT WEEK!:

I'll be in Florence, Oregon on Saturday, April 1st, 6:30 pm at the Florence Events Center with pianist Matt Treder, bassist Sean Peterson, drummer Brian West, and guitarist William Seiji Marsh as one of the headline acts at the brand new Florence Fest. Tickets are $20, and include admission for the full day (including a whole lot of music performed by a number of local groups!) along with ten wine tastes - find out more info and get your ticket HERE (Pssst... I highly recommend attending both days of this two-day festival, and catching Tony Glausi's headline set on March 31st as well!)

Now for tour details from the last few weeks: It was an amazing 11 day journey, with so many life-changing experiences that I couldn't possibly catalogue them all for you... but here were a few highlights:

TOUR RECAP!
  • In Aspen, Matt Treder and I played music for and spoke with the 70-member 8th grade choir at Basalt Middle School:
  • I enjoyed singing with pianist Matt Treder, bassist Sean Peterson, and drummer Brian West for 4 very fun shows as part of the JAS Cafe series (held at the Cooking School of Aspen):
  • In Haiti, we (the "we" in this case referring to pianist Ariel Pocock, bassist Morgan Moore, and drummer Jim Doxas, and I) performed several shows for the Port-au-prince Jazz Festival...

"I Wish You Love/Que reste-t-il de nos amours?" @ Festival International de Jazz de Port-au-prince.
  • ... but then we ALSO visited with the English Conversation group at the U.S. Embassy to Haiti, did a master class for a group of aspiring musicians and musical enthusiasts at the Fondation Connaissance et Liberte (FOKAL), learned a lot more about Haitian history at MUPANAH Cultural Center ...
  • ... performed at the U.S. Ambassador's home, where we met the Chargé d’affaires, many lovely people from the US Embassy, and several amazing Haitian singers (read all about that - in French - in this article published in Le Nouvelliste) ...

  • ... and spent a morning with a whole lot of amazing girls and young women (who even joined us on a rousing rendition of my song "Yellow Bird!") at the YWCA Haiti!

MORE ON halie and the moon..

As many of you already know, I'm part of a new band called halie and the moon that creates all-original acoustic dream pop music, and we've now released two EPs thus far, each featuring four original songs. We are on the cusp of releasing a brand new full-length album later this Spring, and will be celebrating the release locally with a concert on May 6th at First Christian Church in Eugene (where you will also be able to buy the CD before anyone else!). More details coming soon - please check out halieandthemoon.com and Facebook.com/halieandthemoon to find out more information of upcoming events and the album release!

Our already released music is available for sale on our official webstore (halieandthemoon.bandcamp.com), iTunes, Amazon, and more (our EP "A Million Suns: vol. 1" has also recently collected over 300,000 listens via Soundcloud!

Excerpt from a recent review of "A Million Suns: vol. 1":
"A Million Suns, Vol. 1, is a great celebration of summer, love, and beauty, and in these days of so much hate and violence, an homage to love and beauty is to be cherished" (Joe Frazier)

This EP and debut "Blue Transmissions: vol. 1" can be streamed on Spotify... we'd love for you to follow us there!:
