The definition...of Maturity

(from great etiquette and life wisdom teacher of our time-Abigail Van Buren)

A class of sixth graders in a Wisconsin public school asked for my definition of maturity. I hurriedly dashed off a succinct and oversimplified definition. It was published in their school newspaper and a copy was sent to me.
Upon re–seeing it in a different form-it looked very pleasing and I decided to publish it in my long running nationally syndicated column, ‘Dear Abbey.’

Sometime our best work comes right out off the tip of our tongues. Here’s what the definition said…

Maturity is the ability:
To do a job whether you’re supervised or not;
To finish a job once it’s started;
To carry money without spending it;
and to bear an injustice, without wanting to get even.

(Footnote- this comes from her book the ‘Best of Dear Abbey--absolute classic treasure chest of wisdom, and one to have for the family library.)
