2017 will be an exciting year for CPSAC! We’re hoping to grow in every province and territory, supporting more training, producing more resources and connecting more technicians with each other than ever before.

As of February 2017, we have 1249 certified members, including 1196 technicians, 40 instructors and 13 instructor trainers. There are already 15 courses booked for 2017, including 8 in April! More will be added as the weather warms up, we’re sure!

Safe Travel for All Children

A group of members from across the country formed a team and descended upon the United States in January… to attend Safe Travel for All Children, a specialized seminar on seating for children with special medical needs. The group spent two days with experts at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. There was also team building in the evening, because CHLA is in Hollywood!
Member Training Subsidy
CPSAC is delighted to announce a travel subsidy to help its members access training for transporting children with special healthcare needs available in the United States. CPSAC will subsidize members attending a Safe Travel for All Children course in the 2016-2017 fiscal year by offering to subsidize up to 30% of the travel costs to any member who wishes to attend this training. This funding may be applied for retroactively and those who have successfully completed the training in the 2016-2017 fiscal year are eligible. More information is available in the tech resources section of the website.

CPSAC Shop

Want to look professional for caregivers? The CPSAC Shop has in-stock polos and hoodies, safety vests, totes, measuring tapes, and patches. There are also newborn baby shirts for that pregnant or newly post-partum tech in your life.

Please pay careful attention to size charts, fit notes, and the "how to read a size chart" page if you are concerned about fit.

Free Check Forms

Are you prepared for clinic season? Don't forget about CPSAC's triplicate forms. We're not stingy. You can have as many as you want. If you just want four pads (100 forms), click here.

If you want more than four,
get in touch with Valerie Froom at valerie.froom@cpsac.org for a custom shipping quote. Remember, as many as you want! A full case has 32 pads.

Do you want to nominate someone?

Simply email CPSAC’s Vice President at sarah.brickell@cpsac.org with a paragraph explaining how the individual you’re nominating has shown extraordinary dedication to and support of child passenger safety programs and activities. This individual should enthusiastically support activities such as car seat clinics, educational events, caregiver programs, etc. This individual should successfully educate caregivers on how to transport child(ren) safely based on CPSAC’s curriculum in a positive and patient manner. Nominees selected will win a coveted CPSAC branded item from the CPSAC Shop.

Every person who submits a nomination will be entered in a draw to win a free recertification courtesy of CPSAC. One winner from the previous years’ nominators will be selected at the AGM.

Logos and Templates

We encourage our members to use the CPSAC logo when advertising courses, clinics, and related events. To help, we've also developed graphic templates in a variety of shapes and sizes. See the All-Star graphic above for another sample.

For more information, please review the Graphic Identity and Branding Procedure, which includes instructions for use and files for download.

Strategic Planning Update

Over 2015 and 2016, CPSAC undertook a renewal process for the organization’s mission, vision and goals. After consulting with members through multiple surveys and group sessions, the membership proposed a revised mission, vision and strategic plan for CPSAC’s future. It included short term and long term goals. In January, the board gave final approval. We’re thrilled to introduce them after such a wonderful collaborative process. Look for them on our website too!

Mission
To provide Canadians with the skills and knowledge to safely transport children.

Vision
To be the Canadian leader in child passenger safety through education and advocacy.

Goals
1. Be the largest child passenger training organization in Canada.
2. Be the main source for CPS best practice resources in Canada.

In The News

CPSAC members are subject matter experts and often called upon by the news media to comment on timely topics. Here is a sample of recent media coverage.

LATCH Manual

The 10th edition of the LATCH Manual provides important guidance for proper use of the LATCH (UAS) system. It is a useful resource for technicians working with caregivers. This edition includes major changes, including updates to manufacturer instructions for use of lower anchors and tethers of some CR products and vehicles. The LATCH manual includes UAS weight limits for restraints and vehicles, tether routing instructions, and retrofit information.

CPSAC is not distributing LATCH manuals in 2017, but they will be available in Canada through one of our members, CPST-IT Barb Baines. Email latchmanualcanada@gmail.com for more information about pricing.

Board of Directors Update

Thank you to everyone who participated in the AGM in November. At our AGM, we said goodbye to outgoing board members Marianne Rozak (ON), Vanessa Ritchie (BC), and Jodie Coulson (ON). Valerie Froom (BC) was re-elected along with Angela Stacey (NL), Tess McCormick (AB), and Jen Shapka (ON). Continuing board members were Katherine Hutka (NS), Sarah Brickell (ON), Amy Ells (NS), and Deanna Lindsay (ON).

This board is strengthening its commitment to members and to developing a board of directors model that balances open communication with efficient decision-making, an area where the board has faced challenges in the past. This commitment comes following resignations by Amy Ells and Tess McCormick. Between AGMs, our bylaws allow the board to fill vacant board positions. The board felt it best to follow the results of the November election and fill the vacant positions with the next two nominees. Accordingly, Stacey Gudmundsson (ON) was welcomed on in December and Jodie Coulson (ON) welcomed back in February.

We are committed to updating the membership on our progress.
