This Week's Sermon

On Sunday we'll continue our series Peter: Growing with Jesus with a sermon from Joshua on Matthew 26:36-46. We invite you to read ahead as a way to prepare for Sunday's service.

Happening this week

  • The Heart of Evangelism: Our next Christian Formation class continues this Sunday, March 19th. Entitled "The Heart of Evangelism," this four-part course (meeting on the 19th, 26th, and April 9th) on intentionally loving our neighbors will help you to build bridges with your neighbors, understand what others believe, and begin conversations that allow you to share your hope in Christ. Please RSVP to Joshua Earman (joshua@citychurchrva.com). Childcare is available upon request, please RSVP for childcare by noon TOMORROW (March 23rd) so we have time to recruit workers. Contact Val Catrow (val@citychurchrva.com) with childcare requests. Visit citychurchrva.com/formation for more on this class and what we've got lined up in the coming weeks!
  • 20 Days of Prayer: Throughout Lent City Church will host times of corporate prayer: Mondays evenings, 7:45-8:30pm; Wednesdays, 12-12:45pm; and Fridays, 6:45-7:30am. Visit the City Church website to learn more.

Coming Up Soon

  • Traditional Sexuality, Radical Community: The debates about sexuality are endless, even in the church. As a Christian who is gay and celibate, author and assistant Professor of Biblical Studies at Trinity School of of Ministry, Wesley Hill has been on the front lines of many of these debates. In this half-day forum, Wesley will explain why the historic Christian sexual ethic still holds even in our current context, but will also explain how this ethic can actually be lived through the power of Christian community and spiritual friendship. This free event will take place on Saturday, April 1st, 9am to noon, at Third Church (600 Forest Avenue). For more details, please visit Third's website.
  • Good Friday Service: Join us on March 25th, at 7pm, at Grace Covenant for a Good Friday Service. The Good Friday service is a somber service of Lessons and Songs to help us mark the Passion of Jesus Christ our Lord. This service will be held in partnership with Grace Community Presbyterian Church.
  • Easter Event: All are invited to join us on Saturday, April 15th, 4pm to 7pm at the Stone House in Forest Hill Park (4021 Forest Hill Avenue) for our annual Easter celebration. This is a wonderful family-friendly (but NOT family-only) event that we look forward to each year. It's great way to introduce friends and family to the City Church community, so please bring guests along with you! Here's a PDF invite that you are welcome to pass along. The bounce house will open at 4; our egg hunt starts at 4:30; and dinner is at 5. City Church will provide the main dish, so please bring a side dish or dessert to share. Want to sign up for something specific to round out our menu? Click this link to do so. We look forward to seeing you!
  • Men's Overnight: Gentlemen, save the date for this year's men's overnight, Saturday April 22nd through Sunday, April 23rdat Chanco on the James (about an hour from Richmond). Registration is $40 for tents or bunkhouse beds and $60 for interior double occupancy rooms. Dinner and breakfast are included. Registration information coming soon!

Serving Our Community

  • Mercy Fund on Sunday: In addition to our regular offering, we will take up a special Mercy Fund offering during Sunday’s service, as we always do on the last Sunday of the month. Whatever is given to the Mercy Fund will be kept separate from our general budget and will be used to aid those in our congregation, and in our community, who have emergency needs. Please prayerfully consider what you might give.
  • Good Friday Blood Drive–VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: City Church will partner with Grace Covenant and other churches in Stuart Circle to host a blood drive on Good Friday (April 14th) from 9am to 3pm. The blood drive will take place in the Fellowship Hall of Grace Covenant. To sign up to donate, please visit redcrossblood.org and enter the sponsor code GOODFRIDAY. We are in need of a few volunteers to represent City Church at the blood drive. If you're interested in helping, please contact Mary Conkright at mary.conkright@gmail.com.
  • Candy Donations Needed! We are in need of candy donations for our Easter event on April 15th. Please bring a bag of wrapped candy to the City Church office by April 9th if you're able to donate!
Have a great week!
