Last November and December Think Humanity's volunteers were busy selling Christmas ornaments made by internally displaced women in Uganda. We do this every Christmas and 100 percent of the sales went towards purchasing mosquito nets. We also had our annual mail-out campaign. The campaign is an annual event when we raise donations to purchase long-lasting insecticide-treated bed nets (LLIN) for underdeveloped communities and refugees in Uganda.
We raised enough for 3,000 mosquito nets - thanks to you!
We re-visited Kyarujumba Village to replace old nets. They had last received bed nets in 2012. In February 2017 our volunteers gave out 1,200 new nets there. (see photo above). The bed nets were much needed, especially with the upcoming rainy season where malaria kills a young child every 30 to 45 seconds.
We also handed out 1,800 nets from the Think Humanity Health Center in Kyangwali sub-county. While giving out these bed nets we included birthing kits to expectant mothers. The birthing kits were donated by Birthing Kit Foundation Australia. The majority of those who received nets were Ugandan nationals.
