February Crime Fiction Recommendations
My Sister's Grave
by Robert Dugoni

This is the first crime novel in the Tracy Crosswhite series. It's about a Seattle homicide detective who has been investigating the murder of her younger sister for 20 years. Even though someone was charged and convicted of the crime, she's not sure he did it. When her sister's remains are discovered, will the detective now have the evidence to find the real killer? I love good police procedurals like this one!

The Knowledge
by Steven Pressfield

This is a fictionalized version of the author's real-life story from the 1970s, when, while driving a cab in New York and working a side-job tailing his boss's straying wife, he is inadvertently pulled into the criminal underworld by "Turks" and "Russians." At the same time, he's making a third attempt at writing and completing his third-in-a-row unpublishable novel. He chases women and the Muse, while fighting crime and Resistance! Great read!

News and Events
Yep. That's me with Steven Pressfield (on right) author of The Knowledge, The War of Art, The Legend of Baggar Vance, and so many more fiction and non-fiction books. In the photo with us is Steve's editor, Shawn Coyne, the author of The Story Grid, the best writing craft book ever. I met them both during the intensive small-group writing workshop I attended in New York in mid-February. In writing my first novel, Pay To Play, I utilized the story grid principals. My next novel, Greedy Givers, will also benefit from everything I've learned from the book and directly from these two publishing industry legends.
The Second Season of Shades of Blue - Starts March 5. It's a little over-the-top at times, but still one of the cop shows I enjoy watching. I especially like the FBI agent who's obsessed with Jennifer Lopez's character, single mother and NYPD detective Harlee Santos. Harlee straddles the line of protecting the members of her corrupt unit and being an FBI informant trying to outsmart her handler, Special Agent Robert Stahl (he's kind of creepy). The first season can be watched online or On Demand - NBC.
