When a family member has special health care needs, siblings may experience stress that affects their relationships with family members and friends as well as their functioning at school and in other settings. Care Coordinators have the opportunity to provide holistic family support, including resources for siblings.
Care Coordinators may plug siblings into support opportunities at their schools, churches, and through other organizations in their local communities. In addition, The Sibling Support Project is an international initiative specifically designed to address the needs of siblings, and this project offers Sibshops—support groups for siblings. Family Voices Indiana specialists can assist Care Coordinators and families in their search for sibling supports.
