Conway Stewart Series 100 in Demo acrylic with silver fittings

A new version of an old favourite

Always popular with pen collectors, the Conway Stewart Series 100 has stood the test of time and is as popular today as it was when it was first introduced in the autumn of 1954 and was seen as the flagship pen of the company going into its Silver Jubilee year - 1955.

Today's new release of this iconic pen - the Conway Stewart Series 100 in Demo acrylic  - carries all the same features as its predecessors, notably the triple banded cap, the distinctive rounded shape and the high position of the clip.

Conway Stewart Model 100 ad from 1954
Here is a 1954 advertisement featuring the new 'Model 100' which Conway Stewart changed to 'Series 100' in recent years.

You can see the distinctive trio of bands around the cap, the high position of the clip and the pronounced curved shape of both cap and barrel.

Our thanks to Stephen Hull. This advert is featured in his comprehensive 266pp history of Conway Stewart published in 2010 and entitled 'Fountain Pens For The Million. The History of Conway Stewart 1905 - 2005'.

Whether this unusual acrylic was ever intended to be a proper Demonstrator is hard to say. Certainly 'Demo' is a recognised Conway Stewart colour and was allocated a CS colour reference of 601.

One thing is certain, though, the Series 100 Demo is sure to catch the attention and admiration of everyone who sees it. It is a made from an unusual acrylic that is semi-opaque. Rotate it in your hand and in places you'll catch glimpses of the convertor or cartridge inside the barrel. In other places the mottled black, grey, blue and silver in the acrylic give it a mysterious, metallic - almost electric - feel. Intriguing!

Only 7 are available - A rarity for CS collectors

We have found and assembled just 7 complete pens from this unusual and intriguing acrylic material. If earlier releases of Series 100 releases are anything to go by, they will be quickly snapped up by collectors of this iconic British pen.

The Demo acrylic material used for this special edition is enhanced by Sterling silver fittings including 3 bands on the cap - two narrow and one broad - the latter bearing a full set of English hallmarks and two additional bands on the barrel.

Without doubt, this is a distinctive pen. The material is rare and full of mystery and with only 7 available you'll need to make your reservation early to be sure of adding it to your collection. If you already have a number of Series 100 pens in your collection you'll already appreciate its classic styling and elegance. If you're new to Conway Stewart or don't have a Series 100 in your collection, this is a superb example that 'ticks all the boxes' as fare as collectability and rarity are concerned.
