Everyone knows how to make old fashioned Easter eggs with a Paas dye kit and hexagonal wire spoon. But if you're interested in raising your Easter egg game this year, here are some methods you might want to try. Before you begin, check out these helpful Easter egg hacks: Click on each photo below for the image source and a tutorial that explains how to make that particular type of egg.

1. Marbleized eggs with oil, vinegar and food coloring…
2. Watercolor 'bleeding' eggs…
3. Galaxy eggs…
4. Tie-dyed eggs…
5. Doodle eggs…
6. Foil eggs…
7. Emoji eggs…
8. Tissue paper eggs…
9. Baby chick eggs…
10. Mod Podge eggs…
11. Bunny eggs…
12. Abstract eggs…
13. Marbled Indigo eggs…
14. Hipster eggs…
Still need more inspiration? Of course, if you're lazy, you can do what I do and decorate them with Photoshop.

1. The amazing anti-aging power of kindness.

2. The world's largest monetary prize for children's books—the Astrid Lindgren memorial award, worth 5m Swedish kronor (over $550,000, U.S.)—has been awarded to German illustrator Wolf Erlbruch.

3. How Hard Is It To Make Your Own Children’s Book? Several editors at Slate Magazine recently gave it a try (although to be fair, they only gave themselves an hour).

4. April 11th was National Barbershop Quartet Day. Here's an example of a good group. Now, I'm an old wannabe bass singer, and though the Crystal River Boys (see link below) are considered more of a southern gospel quartet – you won't want to miss Ken Turner's low… low… LOW note on the Rainbow of Love. Watch it here. It's a classic. (Wait for it!)

5. Several years ago, I did some live drawing at the Lawrence, Kansas Creativity Fair, a.k.a.: Confabularryum. Lots of talented little artists were in attendance, but I knew I was in over my head when one of the kids, obviously unimpressed with my drawings said, "You do realize that my grandfather is a cartoonist for the New Yorker, right?” I'm sad to report that Jack Ziegler, children's book writer, illustrator and New Yorker cartoonist, has died at 74.

About Me

Hi. I’m D.E.Uhlig. I’m an artist, author, husband and father.

For as long as I can remember, I have loved to draw. Years ago I gave my wife a hand-drawn card for our anniversary, and she loved it so much she made me promise to ALWAYS hand-draw her cards. Then our three kids made me promise to do the same with their birthday cards. And when I posted some of my drawings online, people began asking how they could purchase my work—so I created this newsletter. I believe in something I like to call “The Happiness of Art” and I hope it makes you smile.
